I'm still totally making a Besalisk gunslinger that uses four pistols or one that uses four swords. Not as a PC, but as an NPC for them to fight.

And one more... mainly because I wanna play a space-squirrel!

Holy **** I never knew these guys existed. I am so happy.
On a side note, I'm working on A BUNCH of extra races not found in the book or in the USM 2.0 and making some write ups. I'm going to go ahead and throw some of the Star Wars entries that you other guys have also posted in this thread (with credit, of course!) and put them all in a drop box and put the link on a new thread. If anyone comes up with more races or adjustments to the ones I'm working on we can do some serious crunching in that thread. I'm having too much fun with this! XD
Edited by Endrik TenebrisUsing the Revised Core Rules (RCR) d20 Ultimate Alien Anthology as a reference, the Besalisk has one primary hand and all other hands are considered off-hands. The multidexterous feat allows a Besalisk to wield light weapons in off-hands, but there are penalties without taking multi-weapon fighting (of which there are three levels to offset penalties to use), a feat that is only available to species with more than two prehensile appendages.
In the Clone Wars series, a Besalisk Jedi is able to wield a double-bladed lightsaber in one hand and use two of them at the same time. Such a character would be considered to be using the Wookieegrip feat (originally monkeygrip in d20) and multi-weapon fighting.
Most combat systems want to avoid overpowered characters, so rules such as only firing one blaster at a time or swinging one sword at a time, even when dual wielding. Access to additional game mechanics usually allow for more actions in a turn to compensate, though usually nothing too extreme.
That aside, the next Menagerie release will have a rendition of the Besalisk from Donovan Morningfire. Perhaps that version will provide a mechanic to suit your needs.
I'm trying to get my wife wanting to participate in a game. She has shown some interest when I told her she could be a wookie, but this was immediately followed by:
"Can I be one of those small furry things?"
"An Ewok"
"Yeah one of those."
I would imagine this has already been discussed someone and if it has I would appricate a link the the thread. My question is has any created a species profile for an Ewok or am I best suiting just making that myself.
There is a menagerie file out there on the Resource page, but I don't have the link off hand. It absolutely has those little cannibal buggers.
They are omnivores, not cannibals. Last I checked we don't see them eating other Ewoks and so they don't fit into the classification of cannibalism.
True...you are technically correct (the best kind of correct). I was thinking more as in eating another Sentient race. I guess I have a wider definition than most.
If eating a sentient makes you a cannibal, then every human on this planet that eats meat is a cannibal. Most animals are sentient and we consume them.
Traditionally, cannibalism refers to the eating of your own species. If you want to extend it to other life forms based on levels of intellect, that gets a bit tricky. There's three broad levels of intelligence that I'll discuss here.
Self-aware basically means that if you poke it with a stick, it will react in some way which is not directly induced by the stick itself. Even plants exhibit this level of intelligence quite commonly. It's a particularly low bar, since basically anything more reactive than a boulder can handle this. The vast majority of plants fit in this category as do virtually all animals, though you may need either incredibly large, or incredibly small sticks to test a given critter.
Above that lies sentient, which implies thinking, not just self-awareness. I'll admit there's a good number of animals (including crows) which have, through study, demonstrated the ability to keep track of information in ways that certainly indicate the ability to think, but it's far from being so wide-spread a phenomena that I'd be comfortable using the word 'most' in that context. This level gives you a basic ability to recognize patterns and react in advance to the conditions expected as a result of seeing that pattern start again.
And, beyond sentient, there is also sapient, which implies not just thinking, but *reasoning*. At that stage, there's markedly *few* animals we know to demonstrate any such ability (mostly primates). And as a species, I think we can all think of at least one human off hand who we don't actually think meets *that* particular requirement, but is still ostensibly a productive member of society. This level gives you an ability to categorize patterns, and react to them based on other patterns you deem to be similar based on the available information, and to extrapolate more data from partial information.

I actually took a shot at them myself, taking heavy inspiration from your model. Basically, I decreased their starting EXP to 80, kept the wounds and strain you had, and gave them 1 rank in Resilience (without the choice of picking survival). Then, I allow them to wield up to four weapons and stuff incurring the normal penalties for dual wielding if they are using their four arms to hold two weapons. However, if they have three or four weapons, they incur a +2 to the difficulty instead of the normal +1. They can trigger the Dual Wield attacks with Advantages and Triumphs once per attack, and can trigger weapon qualities with any of their weapons ONLY after triggering the attack with that weapon as per usual. They still pick a "Main Hand" like regular people, and all the other ones are their "Off Hands."
That's basically all they have. I gave them a really low EXP start because of how potentially powerful this ability can get. I mean, they also have all of those hands to do non-combat stuff. Having four hands is simply a pretty cool thing.
I'll be posting that entry in the Drop Box along with all the other ones I'm working on. And since I took inspiration and or just recopied some of these entries, I gave credit to everyone in here that made the initial writeup. I've already finished the Kaleesh, Houk, Kushiban, Arcona, an Besalisk based on the stuff that we had discussed here. I'll probably either post the link here when I'm finished or I'll make a new thread.
And obviously, they are going to just be suggestions, and if anyone wants to change them, use them, steal them, or ignore them, go for it. I'm just having a lot of fun making up these races because I've always enjoyed doing that!
One of my players, who has only just seen the movies, has expressed an interest in playing a Kaleesh. So I'd be interested in seeing your version Endrik.

Very cool. I look forward to reviewing your decisions and Donovan's alike.

Here's what I have so far. You can find them in the races section.
So far, I got entries done for:
Houk (Identical to Cilionelle's)
Kushiban (Barely adjusted from Cilionelle)
Besalisk (Inspired by deeachur)
Arcona (Inspired by deeachur)
Kallesh (Inspired by LickinToad)
Miraluka
Taung
Talz
Gen'Dai
I have a lot more I'm going to do, including the Red Sith, Anomids, Mirialan, Neti, Abyssin, Chagrian, Geonosian, Kel Dor, and even Voss, Gormak, Rakata, and Esh-Ka, among others that I think of as I go. Let me know what you think of them as you look at them all!
EDIT: Wow, something got lost in translation when you view it straight from the Dropbox. If you download the files and view them then, they should be displayed CORRECTLY. Sorry about that! XD
Edited by Endrik TenebrisIs the Arcona supposed to have "Extrasensory Scent"? Perhaps it should be "Extraordinary Scent" instead?
Woops. Yeah, totally typed that when I was tired or something I guess. It has been changed simply to "Scent." Good catch!
I must've missed deeachur's alterations... what were they?
Actually, he didn't do anything to it, I'm just dumb and typed the wrong name by it here (though it was right in the actual Kushiban entry). I just went back and fixed it, sorry.
And the only thing I did to change them is bump their Wound and Strain thresholds to 8 and 12 respectively, instead of 9 and 11. I figured that made more sense, since I definitely see them as squishier than Bith, Ewoks, or Camaasi (going off of the U.S.M.) and it lends to the fact that they are cute little fuzzy rabbit squirrel thingies.
Ewoks off planet? Easy enough to explain. They were abducted. Slaving is a pretty regular part of the Star Wars universe. That alone gives endless story possibilities as to why there are Ewoks away from Endor.
- Slavers abduct Ewoks occasionally to sell as designer pets to Core world nobility.
- Occasionally an Ewok or two sneak aboard the ship of a Fringer for adventure and to see the stars.
- The Hutts are always competing with each other for the most unique and exotic of treasures. An Ewok butler would be an excellent acquisition.
- Ewoks have a special antibody to a virulent plague and Imperial scientists moved a small sample of the little bears to an Imperial Medical facility for study.
- A well meaning xeno-anthropologist transported a small band of Ewoks off Endor to teach them the ways of the galaxy so they can return to their people to inform them.
- Trandoshans thought it was a colony of Wookie children and enslaved them.
Those are just five quick ideas I had while writing this post. All you have to do is write "then the Ewoks escaped" or "then the Ewoks were freed" at the end of each and boom you have the back story to a PC.

That's what happened with Treek the SWTOR bounty hunter, and that was 3500 years before A New Hope.
Pirate ship crashes on Endor. She goes to see and offer her help. They laugh at little teddy bear and try to shoot at it. She spends the next week systematically murdering all of them for revenge, then she commandeers the ship, forces the droid on board to teach her how to fly it, and then she crashes into Nar Shadaa and becomes a Bounty Hunter.
UPDATE: Added more races!
-Red Sith Purebloods
-Selonians
-Miraluka
-Mirialans
-Kaminoans
-Kel Dor
-Chagrian
-Abyssin
-Sand People
I think that's all of them that I've done so far. I'm still working on more, though, so let me know what you guys think!
Sorry for the triple post, but this thread got buried and I have more updates! Reposted link: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/jdp5u8uoqgk58kb/aZYDhU9zvw
I finished:
-Anomid
-Advozsec
-Colicoid
-Voss
-Gormak
-Neti
-Rattataki
The only other four I have on my radar right now are:
-Rakata (lolol)
-Esh-Ka (Also lolol)
-Diathim
-Geonosians
If anyone has any requests or other ideas for somewhat popular races, I'd love to make them up for you!
Edited by Endrik TenebrisHow about a Yuuzhan Vong? It's not something I'll let my players play as, but I'll probably let my players meet some of them (once they saw the Galaxy map in the rulebook and I told them they could go anywhere in our campaign they immediately set their eyes on the Unknown Regions, which just scream Far Outsiders to me).
I'm rather curious how to let their sadistic nature reflect in the game mechanics, if I remember the NJO correctly the Warrior caste even seemed to get stronger the more pain/hurt they received.
I think the greatest disservice done to Ewoks was their depiction in RotJ. They seemed too soft and fuzzy, their teeth, that we did see did not scream omnivore, I remember large flat teeth that said herbivore. They were dumpy and looked ridiculous when they moved. I've seen many pictures since then online that certainly give the Ewoks a more fierce, tribal, omnivorous, survivalist look, and I like it. Still can't stand the furry buggers (lol) but those pictures sure look like creatures that could overwhelm a platoon of Stormtroopers.

I had a Star Wars comic book that was "Apocalypse Endor" or something like that. The furry little Ewoks were hunting down the Storm Troopers Viet Cong style. So although they were cute and cuddly in RoTJ, they are still aboriginal/tribal bad boys.

I would likely just make them adversaries, then, rather than giving them a species write up.
As for the sadism thing, I would probably just give them the "Wookiee Rage" ability, but instead of it being because they're getting mad, it is because that's just how they roll.

Yeah, Treek (SWTOR Ewok Companion) has a similar story where she systematically murdered a ship's crew for shooting at her and making fun of her, then she jacked their ship and peaced out. She is pretty metal.
Characters in EotE don't just have to be snugglers/bouty hunters/etc. The explorer class would work pretty well for these little furry guys. I wouldn't discourage her being an ewok if that is what she really wants to do.
Yes I kind of visioned this character maybe taking on a specialiation of a doctor or something.
Which just brings to mind the running gag we have in our SWtOR game. "We told you *not* to tell us what's in our Med Packs!" (Seriously, if you ever look at some of those recipes, you'll want to stop using them!)
Endrik, I'd like to see your take on the Verpine species. The Unofficial Menagerie already has it covered there, however it does not seem to reflect the aspect of the Verpine having a very tough chitin and seeing as I am a total n00b at tweaking characteristics and abilities I don't know how to modify it myself.
Edited by MorridiniVery tough chitin can be represented with a free rank in Enduring.
Ah yes someone already mentioned that for me earlier, but I forgot to expand upon something in my previous post. As the species is in the Menagerie now it's actually pretty good, the Verpine has 3 in Intellect and 1 in Brawn, they have a free rank in Mechanics and have the Gearhead talent. All of these things are good at representing the Verpine species as far as I know it, except for the tough chitin. However adding a free rank in Enduring ontop of all it already has seems to make the Verpine a bit overpowered compared to the other species. We could of course drop either the rank in Mechanics or the Gearhead talent, but then again those both fit the species rather well. So as I am obviously clueless I turn to you guys for help, any further input HappyDaze?

Drop Gearhead if you want Enduring. Optionally, just go with Brawn 2 at start and instead drop another starting score to 1., possibly Presence.

Enduring is a far more valuable talent than Gearhead, as quite a few specs have Gearhead for 5XP, but the cheapest I've seen Enduring is 15XP. Based on the species that FFG is publishes so far, it seems that the only talents that should be handed out as bonus talents are those available for 5XP.
Honestly, if Morridni really wants the Verpine to not be so fragile, your suggestion of replace Presence as their "dump stat" instead of Brawn, in conjuction with dropping Gearhead for a +2 bonus to Wound Threshold (the equivalent to the Toughened talent, which is also available for 5XP under a number of specs) would probably cover it.
