Custom 10 sided dice

By kmanweiss, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

I can't believe FFG didn't come up with this before me.

2 custom 10 siders. 1 black with white font. The other white with red font. The black one would have a Imperial logo instead of the '0'. The white one would have the rebel logo instead of the '0'. Put them in a 2 dice pack with a couple more light side/dark side tokens and sell it for $5.

Why is this a good idea?

1. Easy cash for FFG.

2. Not all people picking up EotE are long time RPG players, so they don't all have a ton of dice laying around.

3. It would give me an entire dice set for this game without canabilizing other dice sets.

Anyone know of any place we can create our own custom dice for a decent price?

Sounds like something they would do as a Gencon exclusive, but if available for sale I would buy them.

would these be for the d100 rolls referenced in the rulebook?

I bought a red and a blue d10 for each of my players from my FLGS.

Super simple.

Pricing is for d6. You can ask if they do D10.

Yes, a 4 hour trip to pick up a couple D10s is super simple! LOL

Some of us don't live anywhere near a FLGS.

Yes, they'd be for the d100 rolls.

Buying a red and blue d10 is simple enough if you don't live 2 hours from the nearest FLGS. The walmart here doesn't carry D10s. Again, a lot of players picking this game up might be new and not have dice, and like me, could also be in a position where they can't easily pick up dice. And yes, I know there is an app, but not everyone has tablets and smartphones (I prefer rolling actual dice on top of everything else). Also, for someone new to system wouldn't even know they need d10s. They'd buy the dice pack figuring they were set.

Found the Chessex site, but you have to get a minimum of 10 dice (possibly per die) and that could quickly add up to $200. lol

Found a couple others but no standard pricing, so I'm going to email for quotes.

I'm not saying I need these to play, I'm set. But I'd buy these dice in a heartbeat just to complete the set.

You didn't indicate that an FLGS was out of the equation for you. Complete information is appreciated. I offered it as an option since, as you put it, "a lot of players" live near an FLGS.

If you've looked inside the core rulebook, it tells you that you need D10s. The beginner game doesn't need them.

How do the Chessex customs get to $200? If you're ordering 10 of each and two different kinds that's $20. The core game does recommend a pair of d10s for each player, allowing them to roll their own crits and such. Some players get their own sets of dice to avoid another player's bad karma.

My guess is that they didn't do this simply because its a cost that they won't see a return on. D10s are easily found and i imagine many players already have them (I play MERCS and my MERCS came with D10s) or can easily get them. If they dropped money on reprinting a common set of dice they'll end up losing money.

I see the desire, but I also see clearly why the don't.

You can design your own dice and get them made here:

You could even get a full set of game dice made and these guys make a quality product. If you were industrious you could make extra and offer them up for sale... (they'd have to be different enough from the set FFG makes)

Edit: I just sent them a note to see what a full set of custom game dice would cost, with my own artwork (the symbols would be the same/very similar but with a custom border or something...) I'll post their response when I get it.

Whoa whoa, I meant no offense sir.

I was laughing at my own situation being so far away from an FLGS.

I've been playing RPGs for decades, I have enough 10 siders to build a small fort, but I do keep my dice in sets. I don't just have a giant cheese puff container full of randoms to pull from. Not a big deal, I can 'borrow' from sets to make things work. Eventually, I'd hit a town with a FLGS and probably pick up a few, or just order 10 pack of 10 siders for 5 bucks from any number of online retailers. Heck, if I didn't mind the filth at my friend's apartment, I'm sure I could scrounge up enough 10 siders under his couch and chair cushions. Heck, I probably have enough 10 siders in board games (a relatively rare situation) that we'd be fine.

As for Chessex...from glancing over the page, they want $1/side. That's $10/die. 10 dice minimum for each design would be $100 per die design. Of course, they could just mean $1/custom side in which case you are only talking $20. The page is a little lacking in info.

I can totally see not including the 10 siders with the dice sets.

But from what I've seen on these boards, BGGs boards, and the D20 boards, there are a lot of people that are picking this up as their first ever RPG. They likely won't have a pile of d10s laying around. And until they crack the cover and start reading through, they won't know they need other dice. Heck, they may not realize it until they start playing.

"Ok, so now I roll for obligations...and...hhmm...ok. I figured the dice pack would have ALL the dice we needed to play. So um, guess I'll order some dice and we'll play next week after they get delivered." Can't think of a bigger joykill than that scenario. That could potentially kill any interest a group had in the game to start with. But just having the dice for sale makes it pretty obvious that they may be needed to play the game.

While hardly needed or essential, I think they'd be a pretty sweet thing to have. And 2 dice for 5 bucks would make FFG money and most people wouldn't gawk at the expense. Or make a set of 10 dice for $12 and people would still buy um like candy.

Perhaps sell the percentile dice in a blister pack of 3 Challenge dice for $5?

I heard back for the Q-Dice people and they've changed their minimum order to 100 per type of die so it's really not cost effective for a little guy to get them made anymore...

Anyone good with 3D printing stuff? There's some places to get reasonably priced things printed....if we had a schematic or whatever to get it printed, that might work.

I would absolutely buy a set of Star Wars-specific dice! While I already have a ton of polyhedrals, I don't like splitting up my dice sets. (I'm just funny that way.)

I'd prefer that one be a regular d10 while the other be numbered 10-00.
