Hi I just started playing about a week ago and was wondering if you could add a Shield Modification Card to a Tie Fighter or Interceptor that originally had no shields or if the modifier was only for ships with a shield power greater then 0?

Absolutely! There's no restriction for doing so. You'd be buying a non-critical hit point for about 4 points.

I don't typically do this for my TIEs, I usually give them stealth devices, but on other shielded ships (like the TIE x1, Firespray) I think it would be a worthy upgrade to make your robust ships even more robust.

Firespray's do better with engine upgrade vs shield upgrade...imho.

I'm fairly new to all this but aren't ties NOT allowed to have engine modifications as they don't have the icon on the bottom of their card?

Any ship can take a mod. Most other stuff depends on the ship itself, or the pilot

I chose to put Shield Upgrade on one of my TIE interceptors instead of Stealth Device in order to get to 100 points instead of 99 -- my squad does a little better without initiative because it's all about re-positioning.

I've read somewhere, and I'm sure someone has the math for it, that Shield are better upgrades for lower agility craft and Stealth are better upgrades for higher (3+) agility craft.

I couldn't prove it one way or the other, nor have I played enough.

Makes sense. Stealth is kind of a waste on low-agility ships because as soon as you take that first hit, it's gone. I love it on TIEs and A-wings, though – it can take a long time for that first hit to happen!
