"Prepare for Ground Attack!"

By Stormtrooper721, in X-Wing

Starfighter's aren't just used for space warfare - they're also used in the ground attack role. Some people have already played the Death Star trench run battle with homemade turbolaser towers.

I'm hoping FFG will release a scenario pack with turbolaser towers and a Death Star mat and maybe on the other side - a planetary base or even a CITY mat! The scenario pack could even come with tiles for turbolaser towers, AT-AT walkers, shield generators, anti-aircraft batteries, factories, bases, ammo dumps, supply depots, and other juicy ground attack targets.

Bombers could even carry new bombs specifically for the ground attack role.

Here are some pics to prove that starfighters aren't limited to aerospace superiority missions:

I don't know that it proves it, it is evidence that it might be possible. It depends on what FFG allows as canon.

If it is just the movies then no, they cannot attack ground targets. We see on Hoth that the Rebels have to use snowspeeders and the Imperials never used air assets to attack the Rebels, they certainly had enough ties in orbit to use.

If it is the extended universe then maybe. I have not read all of the books. There may be instances of space ships entering the atmosphere and attacking ground targets.

You are right about one thing: it sure could be fun. :)

House rule stationary targets (like say, zero agility) and then wing it from there.

We already play scenarios like Death Star and Hoth. There are already good fan based ideas out there but I also would love some scenario support from FFG.

FFG has been useing the EU since wave 1. Mareek Steele, Horton Salm, and pretty much all of the Tie pilots are only named in EU material even if a few of them appear briefly. Not to mention the HWK from wave 3. I think it's safe to say FFG is going to use whatever they think is cool that Disney doesn't say no to.

Works for me. :)
