Just Discovered the Beginners Game

By Darth Sunshine, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Hello!

I just discovered the beginners box a few days ago. As somebody that has been playing RPG's for two decades I am not easily impressed by new games. That said, this game really surprised me! I generally don't like custom dice or gimmicks, but the core mechanic of Edge of The Empire really works how it's intended. I haven't gotten newgameitis in a long time, but this product has given me a bad case. I have already ordered the full version based on my first read and I will be running the adventure in the box for my group next meet-up.

I don't like Warhammer fantasy or 40k, but FFG sure has gotten my attention with their take on Star Wars with a narrative system. This is the first RPG in years that I don't cringe at spending $50 on. Bravo!

Welcome to the crazy group. I felt much the same, as a long time SAGA ed collector and player I wasn't sure if I'd jump for this but the Beginners Game sold me so I ordered the core stuff and expect to collect it all.

I'm brand new to tabletop RPGs and I've had the shakes for this game for over a week. Its wonderful.

Overall this system has got me really excited about rpg's again. My group has been playing DnD and there were many things in those systems that I got tired of. Plus its Star Wars. That is just a big bonus to the system.

This has become my favorite RP system ever and I haven't officially played or run it yet.

Welcome to the fold brother.

Don't forget to check out the main Beginner Game mini-site for the follow-on adventure to one in the box.

I like WFRP 3rd. But this game is by far my favorite in terms of system mechanics.

I really like the warhammer world though and I have a few players who prefer fantasy. I do feel that their take on SW with obligation, having their own ship as a base, upgrading weapons, the outer rim setting etc really offers a lot when creating a fun campaign. The fact that you always have something to spend your money on (ship repair/fuel/upgrades, weapon upgrades) creates a feel right out of the box that economy matters.

Never GM'ed SW before, but this game and setting has awesome potential. We've played four long sessions (6-10 hours each) and I want more :-)

That is one of the nice things about the Star Wars setting. It really is fantasy with rayguns and rockets in many ways.
