another set of questions

We had a situation when we were playing a few days ago. My opponent had the Maester's Path out and had won a challenge with two dragons out both could not have attachments on them. The Maester's Path has on it " Response: After you win a challenge, attach 1 Chain from this card to a printed Maester character you control ." So what does the chain come off then get discarded cause there are no targets for it or does nothing happen cause there are no targets in play?

When hear me roar is out and then my opponent uses Qarth does the Dragon's strength go back to normal? Does Hear me Roar not effect a Night's Watch Deck Running The Stewards agenda. Also when would you have to play the only game that matters to beat out effects like Qarth and such?

Forgotten Plans blanks the text of continuous plots only?

Does Tribes of the Vale stay at the same strength if I have equal cards in my hand as my opponent, I think it it would remain at six still but I'm not sure that it would.

edit: dunno how it got that white highlight or how to get rid of it ._.

1) nothing happens, since there is no printed Maester to attach the chain(s) to.

2) I'm assuming you mean the location that grants an INT icon and deadly... if so, then yes, because the dragon now has the appropriate icon.

3) no, because they have an INT icon for the purposes of checking for the strength reduction.

4) it wouldn't affect the dragon/character after it is granted the INT icon (could be wrong, but this is how I've played it)

5) it only comes into effect if you have more cards in hand. If you have as many or less, they stay at 6STR.

Forgotten Plans blanks all plots outside of the plot phase (except for a couple that cannot be blanked, namely Twist of Fate and Focused Offense, and other Forgotten Plans). The result of this is that "When revealed" plots revealed in the plot phase activate as normal, which is probably what prompted your question.

As for The Only Game That Matters, Stormwolf is correct that a dragon would stop being affected by it if it were granted an intrigue icon after the event had been used. The reason for this is that the event creates a lasting effect that affects anyone that is in the challenge at resolution without an intrigue icon. What that means is that it will affect a character without an intrigue icon that joins the challenge after the event is played, it will affect a character that had an intrigue icon when the event was played and lost it, and it won't effect a character that gains an intrigue icon before the challenge resolution. Hopefully that makes sense (see Field of Fire for the difference in wording between effects that only affect the characters at the time it is played and those that set up lasting effects until the end of the challenge).

If I initiate a challenge with Tyrion (LoTR) and I have a bunch of knelt clansmen, does the challenge end if gets killed during the start of the challenge or are the clansmen able to carry on the challenge without him?

As soon as Tyrion is killed any Clansmen that are only in the challenge because of his ability are no longer particpating, ditto if you... Pentoshi Manor'd him or something.

I been wondering this for a bit. can cards with setup on them like increased levy be played outside of setup?

Absolutely. The Setup keyword only lifts the Setup restriction off of the attachment by allowing it to be placed if you can attach it to an eligible card that is also placed in Setup. It doesn't restrict it from being played or put into play by any means normally.

The thing to remember here is that Responses are pretty much always optional. The controller chooses whether or not to trigger them when their triggering condition is met.

In this circumstance, The Maester's Path's Response cannot be triggered because the agenda's requirements (as errataed) aren't met (no Maester character in play). But even if there is a valid target for the ability in play, the controller has to choose to trigger the ability; it's not mandatory like a passive effect pretty much always is.

can you stand a character in a challenge and use it to oppose again in the same challenge with the same challenge? had this come up with Balerion the Black and Meereenese fighting pit.

Your question confuses a few issues, but the short answer is no; a character cannot participate twice (At the same time) in the same challenge. In the case of Balerion, there isn't even an opportunity for him to do so since you would have to declare him as an attacker (or defender) in the Framework "Declare (attackers/defenders)" step, and wouldn't be able to stand him until you had a player action - well after your opportunity to declare him and therefore making you unable to declaring him again.

However, if a character were somehow removed from a challenge he could be added again, if you had a way to add him (a good and relevant example is naval enhancements).

ok had this happen against me I declared a Military Attack for 17 with my clansmen and my opponent used Balerion to oppose and restood him again for to oppose for total of 20.

so also brings up another thing if character does not kneel for a certain type of challenge and you do multiple challenges of that type. Are they not able to do that same type of challenge again again, i.e. like Cersei (LoTR) and The Power Behind the throne. Sorry for so many q's but I'm not sure I actually understand the game well enough yet.

As was stated above, a character cannot count their strength toward a challenge more than once. It is also important to note that standing a character doesn't remove them from the challenge unless the effect specifically says to do so (not that i think you believed that to be the case). As for your next question, there is no such restriction in place. Cersei can participate in both intrigue challenges in your scenario, and can even participate in a power challenge afterwards. There are many cards that allow characters to participate in challenges without kneeling, another example being Dragons with Daenerys Targaryen in play, especially with Heir to the Iron Throne as your agenda; they could actually attack three times in a single phase, two power and one military. A character can participate in any challenge for which it is eligible, unless a card effect specifically prevents it, so if they don't kneel to do so, it often means they can do multiple challenges per round.

This is a derail, but...

I want to take this opportunity to try and establish some terms for the types of lasting effects.

Global Lasting Effect - One that is perpetually trying to push a status onto a card. This lasting effect's affect on a given card can be changed by a change in the game state. (i. e. Gaining an Intrigue icon against The Only Game That Matters)

Local Lasting Effect - A local effect that resolves immediately. This lasting effect's affect on a given card can not be changed by a change in the game state. (i. e. Gaining "Immune to Card Effects" after Ser Jorah Mormont [PotS] is killed)

There might be better names, but I just wanted to see if we could get some clear definitions around the types of lasting effects established as it makes it a lot easier to categorize and remember what cards are what type of lasting effect.
