Miners and Conditions in "Gold Digger"

By SolennelBern, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

Hey all! Question after our first quest in the LotW mini-campaign we started.

The "Gold Digger" quest OL objective is to kill all 4 Miners to reveal the White Objective token. Only Valyndra the Wyrm can attack the Miners.

My question is: When I attack a Miner with Valyndra, I can spend a surge to put a Burn condition on a figure. Since the Miners are treated like figures, can I Burn a Miner and if so, when is the burning effect (suffering 1H) is activated knowing that Miners are "neutral"?

"Condition text: You of a figure adjacent to you may perform an action to discard this card or token. At the end of your turn, you and each friendly figure adjacent to you suffers 1H"

That's a good question since usually they address that type of stuff. In looking at the order of things though since they appear neutral and never really activate I don't think they have a turn to end on. Since they don't the burning effect would never trigger. That is just my gut reaction. Would love to hear anyone else's opinion on this.

I think it would be like poison on any other monster (since they are figures as well) and fail to purge themselves of the burning. I would say at the end of the heroes' turns, they suffer the effects since that is the normal time any other hero friendly figures would move anyways.

Why else would Valyndra be the only one to attack them?

We played it as they get 1 damage from burning at the end of heroes turn.

Well the thing what stopped me from a total no was the quest say anything about them not suffering from affects or losing tests. Since the quest guide doesn't spell it out I say let them burn. I agree with you all now. The quest guide is really good at telling you when things shouldn't happen to the npcs.

Burning:

You or a figure adjacent to you may preform an action to discard this card or token. At the end of your turn, you and each friendly figure adjacent to you suffers 1 heart.

-----

If you can deal 1 heart to the target it can gain burning (Unless specified in the quest that it is not affected by conditions.).

However, in this quest the miners don't activate and won't take the 1 heart at the end of their turn or make any friendly adjacent figure suffer 1 heart either.

Burning just specifies that at the end of that figures (The figure affected by burn.) turn it happens.

Why else would Valyndra be the only one to attack them?

I believe it is for quest balance, otherwise you could double back with your monsters and complete the quest faster.

While I meant it to be a joke, one could argue that if they didn't want the miners to burn, the game designers could assign a monster or a monster group to deal with the the unfortunate souls. And that monster group would not have burn. The idea that burn is there on our nasty wyrm just screams set the NPCs on fire, bwahahaha, yes?
