New Designer Diary & Preview for Tattered Fates

By FFG Ross Watson, in Dark Heresy

Hi Dark Heresy fans!

I just put up a new designer diary for Dark Heresy , wherein we get to hear John French and Alan Bligh talk about their influences and thoughts about writing the Haarlock's Legacy Trilogy. In addition, I snuck in a preview and player handout for Tattered Fates!

I see what you did there.

And I'm looking forward to this after reading the preview. Sounds like it'll be one hell of a time for whatever acolytes are unfortuante enough to find themselves running through it.

+++++and the sessions where I have seen players shouting at each other to grab the sharpened bone dropped by an NPC as they die+++++

I'm not saying its a game about squabbling over sharpened bone fragments whilst might heros crush stars in the background, But.

We get it dez, you don't like Dark Heresy, now please leave these forums and go play 3:16 and let us who do enjoy the game alone.

I personally like the concept and I've been looking forward to this scenerio since the prequel came out and they mentioned the trilogy, so this preview really stoked.

Now can we have an ignore function on the forums, so I can simply ignore Dez and his worthless rants, pictures and movies that are in no way constructive or helpful.

Am I missing something?

Not that that will tell you much more if you're in the dark now. /tg/ is a frothing pit of insane people who talk about 40K and Dark Heresy, and whose brains are host to the less horrific parasitical memetic monsters spawned by their neighboring fester-ruins. Dark Heresy amongst other things, of course, but 40K seems to be very dominant there. Now bear in mind that "frothing pit of insane people who talk about 40K and Dark Heresy next door to the fester-ruins" translates to "hey they have money and are buying our games" when you're running a game company.

It may be a frothing pit of insanity, but it's a frothing pit of insanity where designers and sellers of 40k stuff can talk directly to the honest audience, many of whom buy the products if they're good. It's a good example of the way in which narrowband connections and utter lack of accountability act as a good filter to get to the sordid, insightful heart of humanity in mass action. It's a crude, ugly, startlingly creative shared brain, a pub gaming discussion on fast forward.

Anyway, now you're more in the dark, but you have the chance to remain blessed within the enclosure of ignorance and protected by the God-Emperor. Follow the link to try to understand and heresy beckons. The inquisitive mind is a cry to the warp.

Ah the internet home of Apophenia or are we justly paranoid...

Still, ++good for the preview

Anyone who proclaims my opinions as unusual is fooling no one but themselves.

Dez, I'd give you the whole "small but vocal minority" schpeel, but, since you're the only person on this forum expressing such a hatred for the kind of game DH is, you're not even a vocal minority, just a vocal individual.

I loved the part about sudden and unexpected changes in tone and feel in the adventure. I can't wait to find out what kind of unexpected situations acolytes will find themselves in.

You comment made me laugh out loud Dren Kre''lar.

It's such a shame that this thread about the very exciting upcoming release has basically been two pages of what you usually get when our resident troll who wants to be a dragon-space marine posts. But people just post such witty replies. (To be fair, I suppose it is easy when the forum minus 1 is of a single mind.)

Anyway, thanks for the explanation Reason. I had been wondering the same thing as Snidesworth. Though I'm certain I gained at least 5 Insanity Points trying to understand what I saw when I visited that website!

Ross, my husband and I really looking forward to the new releases. It the Haarlock Legacy is the same quality as Creatures Anathema, we won't be disappointed. And I am excited that all the new material has prompted him to start running his game again, so I get to have some fun on the player's side of the table again!

I know what you mean. If the moderators were a bit more active here, he probably would have been banned already.

I have no problem with the fact that he likes Space Marines, or thinks a Space Marine RPG would be so much more awesome than DH, but I do have a problem with him doing nothing but coming in here and spamming this forum with Space Marine pictures, youtube videos, or posts that add up to little more than "I WANT MAI SPESS MEHREENS!!!!"

4chan is a wierd place. Some of it occasionally makes sense, the rest is just mindless insanity and immature jokes.

+++++"I WANT MAI SPESS MEHREENS!!!!"+++++

Well I do. Spess Mehreens rawk.

I did ask for a dedicated Marine forum, but they continue to be difficult about servicing the largest sector of the 40k fanbase...

Spess Mahreens? Sounds pretty boring to me, anyway.

Dark Heresy isn't Space Marine stuff. If it were, my players wouldn't panic when they run into 4 cultists in the sinks of a hive. If it were a Space Marine game, they'd run back, tear a chunk of out a load bearing wall and hurl i at the cultists. But they don't and it isn't.

Sounds fun, but it's not DH. You can go and make a supplement if you want. I'll encourage you :)

Maybe the larges piece of the the other factions but it is definatly smaller than all the other aspects together , which is why we have dark heresy and not Spaze Marinez.

Getting back on topic.

Any indication of when this is going to be released. The schedule says it's still at the printers, which could mean a few weeks or a few days depending on where it's being printed, shipping etc.

From what distributors show as shipping next week I'm guessing it's slipped into April, 1st or 2nd week.

Who knows. At the internet site i buy it from it says march...

Amazon told me it'd be out this Wednesday. We'll see how that claim holds up.

The flavor they are putting out reminds me very much of the clasic "Masks of Nyarlathotep" for CoC. Which is all to the good, because I've never seen a better adventure for any game system before or since.

Likelihood is that's based on FFG's solicitation for the book around 4-6 months ago. As it's not shipped to distributors yet and is either still being printed, or just finished and on its way to ship it could be some time.

I believe FFG print in China (you kind of have to for coloured hardbacks at the volumes RPGs print at if you want any reasonable printing costs), it could still be a month or more away.

Vault 13, eh?

My group consists of not just a few Fallout fans, so this will cause some chucles :)

Yeah I almost spit up my Dew when I first read it :) Now to wait for what it really entails...

In fact, there's a lil' fun (no offense) on this setence. If you read the Inquistion War Trilogy book from Ian Watson, in the part III (Chaos Child) the only one character going foolish for a bone (to scuplt/carve/engrave) is the MAIN SPACE MARINE character ( Lex D'Arquebus, captain of the Imperial Fist) and....for quite a few chapters, while the rest of the adventure gang pack (inquisitor, assasin, etc ...) even do some jokes about this.
