Handling looting

By Inquist, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

For looting imperials: It's imperial property, its tagged with serial numbers, some even logs fires shot and communicate if they can to the holonet; this goes for some blaster pistols, imagine the information overload if this was done with stormtrooper rifles? Still, the imperial stormtrooper rifles is not something you'd want anyone see you with, carrying it casually... bad idea.

Looting armour? well, if you blasted the poor trooper with one shot, I'd maybe let you use it, but I would considered it Sundered at least once, if not twice. If many shots were fired, it'd be more or less useless as protection. Of course different with brawl attacks.

Also remember Encumbrance, they'll start dropping stuff quickly once they get lots of setback dice to agility and brawn related checks, and when they lose their free manoeuvre each round. Oh yes.

+1.

E-11 Blaster Rifle. It is a widely used rifle in the galaxy, predominantly by the Empire. That is not to say that they cannot be found elsewhere. If my players looted a few, I wouldn't have a problem with it. If the Tech in the group took the time to field strip them and "file off the serial numbers", they could be sold to a number of criminal organizations (including the Rebel Alliance, arguably the most notorious criminal organization in the galaxy). Their contacts on Ryloth would probably buy a few, deeply discounted. As most of the party is sporting blaster rifles as it is (some customized), having a few E-11s around wouldn't be a big deal. If the party turns into bristling porcupines of weapons, then encumbrance will take its toll.

And serial numbers are probably the only way these things are logged. The notion of a lot of high-tech investment in anything Imperial that isn't a secret project is not believable. This is an Imperial army/navy full of disposable troops in disposable gear (ex. TIE Fighters, which lacks shields, life support, or a pressurized cabin). So a handful a rifles out of millions won't be missed.

The armor... now there's the issue. Aside from all the issues above, like the time needed to remove and repair it, it is distinctly Imperial. The stormtrooper helmet is like an unofficial face of the Empire. If characters were careful to ditch the helmet and paint/modify the armor, it might be usable without immediate recognition. But as is, the armor is more a hassle than profitable.

I was just looking through a looting thread on another board and apparently a GM had a player that constantly looted explosives and kept them on hand pretty much all the time. In EOTE it could create a nasty situation if (with enough despair and/or disadvantage) the explosives were triggered while on hand it could create a chain reaction of the munitions.

Apparently in his game, the player was hit by a flame projector, rolled a 1 on the Wild Die (in a D6 game, obviously), and so things went very badly. It started detonating the grenades and other explosives the guy had been looting for a while.
