INTRODUCING KEX

By k12king, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire Beginner Game

I felt like the beginner's adventure had a lot of good things in it, but it was severely lacking in making use of the great locations in Mos Shuuta. So, to spice things up, I created a little adventure to be had inbetween the cantina fight and the junk shop. Its simple dialog that introduces a new NPC named Kex who has his own chip on his shoulder. You follow his directions as he prepares his ship, the Krayt Fang, for launch, and promises you a spot if you help him out. It starts right after beating the gamorians in the cantina, and just use the adventure book location descriptions as base to create this new Star Wars experinece.

Bartender: " Congratulations. You beat up on Teemo's Thughs. In MY BAR!!! Do you
know what kind of damage you caused, and I aint just yappin about the mess you made in
here either. No one likes Teemo's meddling but there's nothin to be done so for both of our
sakes, get out before the thugs wake up. I'll say you headed for the electrogate or
something.
Outside of the bar: A woman in a long gray cloak leans casually against the sand caked cantina.
She coughs to get your attention. As you turn to her, you can't quite make out her face from
the wide brimmed hat tilted downwards, but you can make out a human chin that has a compliment of long red, dusty hair to either side.
"Quite a show you put on there. You must of put some poodoo in ol' Teemo's soup or
something to get him this riled. My guess is you need a way off planet. Yes? well good,
because I can make that happen, but I got a few.... loose ends to clean up here. What say
you help us both out and put that sorry son of a slug back a few credits.
I got jobs to do at Teemo's Barraks and the Electro gate: I can't do both at once, so why
don't you pick one.
After discussion
I need to let some associates into Mos Shuuta for some business dealings and a
part for my ship. Teemo's goons won't like it and the barracks is full of some swamp
swaggling oinkers that having nothing to do but keep Teemo's business on top. I need them
out of the way while I sneak my businesess associates in. So which is it? Open the Electrogate for my associates or take care of the thugs at the barracks.
II
Great, you did it and my jawa friends are in, but patrols are picking up. I hear some stupid
imps are comin soon, and they always bring trouble. The jawas are installing the part now,
and they threaten to call off the deal if I don't leave 'em alone to work, so I got some
productive jobs elsewhere. Teemo has some dealings with them troopers, and I want to make
him too busy to look for us and the imps too furious at Teemo to interfere in our exit plans.
To do that, I can think a few ways ways to strain their relations. Because Teemo always
'generously' supplies the imps with whatever they need, they won't be shuttling down with all
the supplies they'd normally need. Food, water, transportation, you know the stuff. That's
where we come in. The water we normal folk drink is slugwater scum compared to what's in
the water tower, so the tower needs to go. All of the fancy food the imps like has been ordered
from Offworld's traders and we can arrange some.... accidents there. And for whatever
reason the imps always want dewbacks. I'm sure it has nothing to do with me overheating
the engine of one of Teemo's speeders and watching an imp go sailing from the explosion right
in front of Teemo's palace. Unfortunately I predict not all will be the way it should at the dwback stables. If we cause some trouble at any of the three locations it'll help.
And if we getall three, it will make us good for the goin when we got all the parts my ol Krayt Fang.
Then we'll blow outa Mos Shuuta like vomit out of a queezy sarlacc.
I figure there are more of you then me, so why don't you hit one after another and I'll hit the
third. If you get into to much of spot though before you finish, just go head to Shanty Town.
I'll meet you there I got a lot of friends there, so just ask around for Kex.
*If party agrees*
For the first time you see Kex lift her hat out of respect for you. She has a rugged human face with tangled red hair sticking out. She looks like she's seen a lot and you glimpse a gleam in her eye. As you head out for your chosen location, she stares watching you for a moment before she heads off to do her own task.
III
In Shanty Town:
You're pointed out to the dead body of a cloaked figure. Her face is covered by her cloak.
Kex has blast marks all over her, and has mostly been picked dry. There are a few papers
lying. clearly discarded by looters in favor of something more valuable. The first is a picture
of Kex with her arm around a trandotian with a broad smile. A second is a list of parts that
have mostly been scratched off with a check-mark to the right. The only part that is absent of any markings is Hypermatter reactor ignitor. scribbled hastily in below the unchecked part in a somewhat different handwriting is ' get from Vorn's Junk shop'. You see similar instructions scribbled out right below each of the crossed out parts.
The last slip of paper seems to be a messily hand written note in all capitol letters. Most of
the words are poorly spelled and the ink looks like it was splattered in some cases, but you
are still able to read the letter:
KEX, I DON'T KAR IF MAW DIDN'T ET YU WHEN SHE FAWND YU AS
A HATCHLYNG. I DON'T KAR IF YU WAS LIKE A SISTR TO ME AND I DON'T
KAR IF YOU DID WIN THE KRAYT FANG IN A GAME OF PAZZAK!!!!! I WANT
MY SHYP BAK. I CAN'T MAKE TEEMO'S RUNS WITH OUT ER AND IF YOU
DON'T GIVER TOO ME WHEN I FIND YOU, THEN I'LL KILL YOU. DEAD. ITS
EIDER ME OR YU, AND TEEMO ALREADY WANTS YU DEAD FER WHATCHA
DID GANST THOSE IMPS. AND WIN I KILL YU, I'LL TELL MAW YU UP AND
WIZZED IN A IMPS BACTA TANC. SHE HATES STUPID PEOPLE AND NAW
SHELL HATE YU MORE THAN ME. STUPID HUMAN.

Sounds like a great idea. And it shure ties things together (I always thought the bartender's dialogue was a bit weak in the original encounter). Can't wait to try it out. Keep these coming.

Oh would be even more interesting if one of the pcs had a link with her before the adventure maybe involve her with Pash wouldn't stretch much if she saved his life at some point and approaches him for help and that's how the PCs learn about her ship.

Maybe she's their way off the planet but she needs their help so they can escape except as noted above someone double crosses her but I'd have a droid present the PCs can repair enough to discover how she died and maybe throw in the fact she was only present because she was trying to rescue someone she was in love with who was being held by Teemo... a mite overdramatic but helps if its revealed she made say Pash an equal partnership with her ship as a way of thwarting a certain Trandoshan's attempt to steal her ship.

Still what would you do if you had less than a full group of 4 PCs?

Would you allow her to survive as an npc?
