Do allied NPCs use PC resources?

By HappyDaze, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Do NPCs allied with the players use Light Side destiny and PC initiative slots even though they are technically GM controlled?

I'd give them separate Initiative slots (or if minion/companion droid type act on its owners slot if you want to keep the list shorter), but I'd not let them use Light side Destiny points, unless the players suggest it themselves.

I plan on them being under player control (subject to GM override if they try to do something outside of the NPC's character), so use of destiny would always be up to them.

Depends on the NPC, I do this sometimes... other times I control them. If I am controlling the NPC, I would never use Destiny points on the NPCs. It is the character's show... the NPCs are side characters. If the players are controlling the NPCs, it is the players decision.

As for initiative... if the players control them, they go in player slots. If they are controlled by me, they either get their own as a 3rd side.

I would let the players spend light side points for their NPC allies whether I controlled them or not, but it would always be a player decision.

Now I'm imagining the scene in Return of the Jedi, where Lando is being dragged into the sarlacc, and he's yelling up at Han.

"Spend a Destiny Point! Spend a Destiny Point!"

This actually made me giggle like a girl!
