I am just getting into X-Wing and need somewhere to teach me how to play the game better as I get whooped pretty handily. I have a lot of ships but dont know where to begin in putting them to good use.
Where to Begin
Go to the "Battle Reports" section and read about or watch (there are videos) some X-Wing games. The Regionals Reports are especially good to read about as you can read about the top tier squads being used at the highest level of competition. There are also batrep videos on youtube.com where you can watch a couple games and see squad building ideas and strategy at work.
You can also check out the Organized Play boards and see if there are venues close to you where you can meet other players in your area. And welcome to the game!
You've just taken your first step into a larger world...

Well, Obi-wan, maybe a first step into a smaller world - after all, this is a miniatures game!
It seems to me like an important step to learning how to play is to learn how to "fly" around the map while avoiding asteroids and collisions with your own ships.

Step 2: Practice
Step 3: Win games!
If you can get games in, I recommend just setting up 2 ships and practice moving them against each other. It took me several games to get used to exactly how big the 3 bank and other templates are in practical use.
I'm new to X-Wing as well. Already have a little fleet. I prefer to play Rebels. I've only played four games so far, and have lost each one, but I'm learning.
