Do you have any 'House Rules" for casual games?

less than 100pt squads? 70pts? 60pts?

random selection of ships/upgrades?

I quite like the idea of dealing out a selection of cards and then making a playable squad from these ships. Same for upgrades/pilot skills.

Hmmm, maybe a scenario with waves of ships and whenever you destroy an enemy ship, you draw a random upgrade an apply it to your force. Those on or off the table?

Could be interesting.

Everyone starts out with basic ships and then as they bite the dust, the aces make an appearence with cool gear.

Perhaps for every 10 pts a ship is worth, you get a random enhancement card.

Try a random squad generator.

I also played a game with my girlfriend where we started off with 1 academy tie fighter each game in a 1v1. The winner advances up to the next pilot skill higher but gets no upgrade cards or mods. Then you can decide which ship is after howlrunner: Tie Advanced or Interceptor...you can also do the same with rebels. It worked out relatively even for us.

No special rules really but we have dealt out randomw pilot/upgrades cards and it turned out well. On a random draw we were actually within two points of one another. We have also played some free-for-all games with no allegiances in 31 and 50 point formats. Again, lots of fun.

"random squads"

we have a list of pre made squads and we roll to pick one

120 points. Max 100 points on the ship cards, so a minimum 20 points on upgrade cards, secondary weapons etc.

Otherwise the temptation is to max out on as many plain ships as possible...

Then flip sides for the second game.

I have not come into a situation where I used house rulings. However, when I teach people the game, I typically start off with the 31 point build that the rule book suggests. Afterwards, I gradually increase the point value to something around 60-80, then to full 100 points.

I like to set the victory conditions to destroying 50% of the opponent's ships (by point value)

It makes the games shorter so you can get more games in the same amount of time and try more different lists.

I'm guessing you probably only observe this house rule when it is an assured loss for the person who only has 1/2 of his squad left.

destroying 50% of enemy ships is cool.

i was thinking of making a 4 player format where it is 2 vs 2, each player gets 50pts to spend on ships.

Righto... one of my friends had told me that is the way he plays with more than 2 people. I tried it once in a 1v2. It's pretty fun.

We do a blind draw game, deal imps in 10 pilot card stacks, Rebs in 6, upgrades in 15 card stacks....each person alternates grabbing one of the stacks till each player has a set of imps, Rebs, and upgrades.....build the best squad you can....fight!

Only one copy of named pilots / unique upgrades in master deck.

What about an attempt to flee clause? that if 50% of your fleet is destroyed you can attempt to break off and flee off of the opponents side of the board? you won't win the game but it would lead to a draw the player who is defeating the fleeing player can give chase and try to eliminate the fleeing player. and if they can eliminate 75% then they get a modified win but if the fleeing player gets his ships off the pre-designated spot then he can force a tie. kind of like in the movies where the ties are getting battered and run off to the momma ship or vice versa. lol don't wanna offend my imperial friends out there lmao! I do like the concept of win or lose only but,...... when you are the one losing and badly you just wanna flee the battle and force the game to be over and keep some of your dignity doing it. also I have been thinking along the lines of huge battles with 300-500 pt fleets but may have to do that in team mode. I love the random pilots and squads you all are doing I may have to look into that too. I get so many ideas from you all thanks for them..

I wouldn't consider it keeping my dignity if I were to flee the battle. Interesting idea, not one I would probably use though. There's always the idea of a time limit.

I've done 180 pt games. 3 60 pt rebel wings against my 180 pt imperials. I would leave the room so the rebels could discus tactics simulating radio communication. Kind of like the archenemy magic variant. We only played once, i lost, but not before eliminating 2 players.

Wow 180pts...!! a lot... last too much the game?
