Newbie- Gondor deck- core set + Heirs of Numenor

By wargame insomniac, in Strategy and deck-building

Hi

Just started playing LOTR LCG with a couple of friends. Have so far just picked up Core set (*2) and Heirs of Numenor expansion.

I am looking to build 1-2 themed Gondor decks. Not interested in tournmant play just good strong themed decks for play with friends.

Any suggestions?

Thanks very much

James

well with just the core and HoN your card pool is somewhat limited.

i personally think your best option would likely to be:

deck 1: Boromir (HoN), Aragorn, and Theodred

deck 2: Beregond, Eleanor, and Eowyn

So you've got 3 gondor heroes, the heir to the throne of gondor, and some Rohan Nobles that are visiting the kingdom

Deck 1 would be a jack of all trades with being able to quest with Aragorn, Theodred, and the ally Faramir plus Boromir can jack up the attack for your allies like citadel guardian and practically every leadership ally in HoN

Deck 2 is more support, Beregond has sentinel so ideally you wont be engaging. Eleanor will get rid of the nasty treacheries, throw in Northern Tracker for location support. Damrod will get Boromir's boost and can attack or lower your threat if things get icky. Gondorian Spearman can sentinel for the other deck, Horseback archer can ranged for the other deck too. A light in the dark can send enemies back to staging area so other deck can kill them if necessary

Thanks for the advice. presumably as they release more packs from Against the Shadow cycle that will make it easier.

Are any of the Shadows of Mirkwood and Dwarrowdelf cycle specifically worth picking up for Gondor cards?

Thanks

James

specifically for gondor cards? no not at all really, the only other gondor cards featured are a hero Prince Imrahil in the mirkwood cycle and an ally, a warden of healing in the darrowdelf cycle.

that doesnt mean that either cycle does not have good cards that help deckbuilding however...

I would also like to have an Elven themed deck as alternative so may well look at the Shadows of Mirkwood packs sometime.

Thanks

James

If you're thinking about an elven-themed deck, I can actually recommend Dwarrowdelf. I got my Glorfindel and Elrond cards from Foundations of Stone, and Shadow and Flame respectively. Arwen is in Watcher in the Water, and Elladan and Elrohir are in the first 2 packs of the cycle.
