Character Creation Aid

By ValiantOne, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Hello All!

I have a Character Creation Aid I have whipped up. I thought that you all might want access to it. It follows the steps outlined in the book to create characters, with spaces to put the info needed to complete the process.

All comments and suggestions are welcome.

You are welcome to re-post, modify, and use as you will. Just please give me an acknowledgement on your final product (Daniel Cowdery). Thanks! :)

NOTE: Works great in conjunction with the fantastic Gribble's Reference Sheet!

I think this is pretty cool. If I understand the intentions, it seems like a very, very organized alternative to the scrawls and note-taking on scratch paper that people do when they create their character and don't want to fudge up their character sheets with eraser marks.

Thanks for sharing this!

Thanks Dylan!

That was my intent. It is, as designed, a very basic guide to aid the character creation process. It allows one to make notes on the Aid Sheet instead of messing up the Character Sheet...

:)

In beta, there was a community made outline of the character creation process, basically just brief instructions with the rules. Something like adding that to each section would be nice. It was very short, literally like a one page bullet point. You may be able to borrow that to add to each relevent section.

(sorry i can't remember off the top of my head who made it, it was the same guy that made all the talent tree cheat sheets as well as the quick glance info and statblocks)

Sounds like a great idea. I was leaning toward doing just that, but wanted to get the sheet up so you all would have at least something to work with. If this takes off, I will indeed be open to adding some instructions for each step.

Thanks for the great suggestion! :)

I believe that would be gribble, right?

Yep, just found it. It was Gribble who put these together (and a tremendous amount of aid material he provided - thank you sir).

The first page was the one I was thinking of.

Wow, excellent work by Gribble!

If I did assemble something similar to what Gribble has done, it would add another 2-3 pages (at least!). I am willing to go that route if you all want that. My intent was not that heady, just wanted to make a note taking aid to the character making process. Again I am open to doing something like that, if there is a need/want for it.

Thanks for finding that reference! :)

I would certainly use something that combined the two. Hell, I would use your sheet along with Gribbles sheet as it is now. Once you have a good understanding and idea of character creation, something like these are very helpful to streamline the process. 2-3 pages? It's better than flipping through a book :) That way, when you're done you can just transfer over the info to an official character sheet and be done with it.

Labor on with it I say!

Just uploaded an updated version. This one includes additional obligation information, added skill slots, and added motivations.

I am working on adding direct character creation information from the book.

Thanks all for the input! :)

Fantastic work by both parties. I've been looking for something to streamline the process - I'm worried my "new to RPG" group will just get annoyed at all the details and bail before giving it a chance. I just need something basic to hand them so they know their options. A "Here's How You Make a New Character" pamphlet. They use Val's sheet to mark their answers and Gribble's pages are the "test booklet" (can you tell I'm a teacher?). We walk through the process together, one section at a time.

This is brilliant. I just breathed a MASSIVE sigh of relief.

Anyone know how current Gribbles' submission is?

Anyone know how current Gribbles' submission is?

It's current as per the final beta update - so about 95% the same as the final rules.

My book literally arrived yesterday - I'm away this weekend, but plan to be updating to the final rules over the next couple of weeks.

BTW: it's the first 2 pages of the reference sheets that are character creation - designed to be printed two sided on a single sheet.

Oh, and nice work ValiantOne. Seems to be a great worksheet for character creation.

Stellar Gribble. I hope I didn't sound like I was rushing you! My group will play this game about once a month so we're a long ways off from needing to make characters. We're tackling the beginner box this weekend. Your efforts are brilliant. Thank you x100!

Thank you for the compliment and all of your efforts. Your reference sheets are nothing short of extraordinary. I think I will just keep the "worksheet" framework of my project, and point people in your direction for an actual reference for character development. Your work is just too good for me to even attempt to duplicate in any meaningful way. Again, thank you for all your efforts for this community! :)

Version 1.00 is up!

Added steps, description info, and altered the overall visuals.

This should be near a finished product. I will make minor changes as needed.

I will not add written info for the steps, as that would be a duplication of Gribble's work. Please use Gribble's Character Reference Sheet, it is an excellent guide (and works great with my worksheet).

Thanks all for the assistance! :)

Version 1.20 is complete.

Changes: Added new input boxes to many different areas of sheet. Changed the link to Dropbox from Google Share.

Hope this helps all of you needing some assistance with Character Creation.

Have fun and take care! :)

Nice work! I have some char gen coming up, this MIT be real helpful for the newbies especially.

Gribble's stuff is awesome too, can't wait until he has time to update them for the core book.

Version 1.30 is done!

Added another Obligation slot, and a Character Name Slot.

:)

I'll definitely be using both for my group. I'm thinking we'll use the pre-mades in the beginner box for a while, make our way through "Long Arm of the Hutt" with those characters as well.

It sounds ultra nerdy, but I'm looking forward to assembling little folios for my group to help them make their character. A folder they get every time we meet with all their info and ongoing notes, etc.

Assembling a folio is a grand idea...My son and I do that with our characters. May I recommend the Report Binders you can find at OfficeMax (or any such office supply store). They are light, hold all the sheets you will need, and have a clear cover. Makes it all really neat and tidy. :)

Version 1.40 is complete!

Added: Explanations for Obligation and Motivation second slots, Ship Model text box for selecting ship, changed "Cost" to "XP left" in Invest XP Points section... :)

Brilliant. After our first session last night, I was dwelling on what folders to get.

Thanks!

Version 1.50 is ready!

Added: Entire section for Force Sensitive Character Creation...
