How do we get this thing stickied?

Sorry for not bumping this regularly guys; I should have been more on top of it. I know it's a frequently asked question here on the boards, and it'd be great if more new players were to see it immediately.

Having said that, it'd be awesome if it could get stickied :)

Question, will there come a day when we won't need two core sets, I'm newer to the game, ( no competitive play yet) and I have 1x core 2x edge 1x force packs) so obviously not a full playlet. I noticed early on a lot of the key combos especially for the DS really pushed for 2x core. Once we are through the first cupycle will this still be necessary?

Great question as I'm about to jump into this game too. I only have 1 Core atm... and probably won't play in tourney's, so is 2 Core not needed anymore with the newer Edge and BotF sets?

Also, can you just get a Core, Edge and BotF and skip the Hoth packs... or are they really worth it?

Having 2 core sets will likely always be important for competitive play, though having only one will become less of a handicap as time goes on. If you're just playing with friends for fun, just about any mix of cards will work well, get the sets that look fun to you (full spoilers of the sets can be found on places like cardgamedb). I would add that you could have trouble if you only buy some of the sets while your friend has full playsets of everything. That will put you at a disadvantage. But if everyone is working from roughly the same card pool then you'll be able to have plenty of fun no matter which sets are or aren't included.

They might change distribution to only need 1 deluxe...

Netrunner deluxe only need one copy.

We already know that we'll only need one copy of BotF

Annoying @.@

Thanks for the response dbmeboy, I'll definitly pick up my second core set then :) Cheers!

This is the thread I'm looking for.

A lot of my questions have been answered but i have a few more. Let me start by saying that I am only going to be into this as a casual gamer. I play X-wing Miniatures and that eats up 90% of my gaming time and money. I'm going to be the guy who has a friend over occasionally and pulls this game out of the closet to see if they are into it. But I am also an uber Star Wars fan so I know i will like this game. So with that knowledge about me and my intentions, here are my questions.

1) Is the core set alone a satisfying game experience? The X-wing core for example CAN be played as a complete game, but for me is really boring once you get the hang of the game mechanics. The fun comes from building all sorts of squads and playing with a variety of ships. If i get just the core of the card game, am i going to be bored with it after the 2nd time i play, or will it still be fun to pull out once in a while for a casual game?

2) If i do decide to invest more money in this game, in what order should I buy? (I'm assuming it would go Core, Edge, BofF [if released at the time and i want to add additional players], then Hoth expansions in any order)

Keep in mind that I'd still only be playing with friends and will likely be the only guy who has a set of cards, so i won't necessarily need the best possible deck. I'd probably be looking for more of diversity with 1 of everything for both sides

3) How long does a match take on average once players have the general idea of how the game works? The Product page says 30-60 min. Is that accurate? I'm looking for something that will be a little faster than a game of X-wing to set up and play through. (An average 100 pt game takes me and my usual opponent about 2 hours to set up and play)

4) Finally, what is the cheapest place to buy online that you have found?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Happy gaming

1) The core set alone and the starter decks that come with it are a very fun play experience, though you'll miss out on the deck building aspects. It's far from the complete experience, but still quite good out of the box.

2) After the first core set, the next buy really depends on what you want to do. A second core set will be the best option for "competitive" deck building. Edge of Darkness will be the best option for quickly expanding the variety in the game.

3) Most tournaments I've been to had a time limit for matches (2 games) of 60 minutes. Only once did I come anywhere near that time limit, most of the time finishing the entire match in closer to 40 minutes. For experienced players, you will almost always be able to get in a game in 30 minutes or less.

1. I have only been a casual gamer with this game, having no local venue to play tournaments in. Finally, my venue is getting into the game this week so hopefully there will be a regular tournament scene here. I've only played at home with friends and family. When the game first came out, I purchased 2 Core Sets. It allows for quite a bit of neat decks you can make. Even though I'm a casual player, personally, I am really competitive so I want the best chance at doing well that I could possibly have which means more cards. You can have a lot of fun with just 1 or 2 Core Sets. However, with 2 sets and the first three force packs in the Hoth Cycle I've come up with 6 solid decks, 1 for each affiliation. I have enough cards to make even more decks but I won't do so until I have more card sleeves.

2. This is a personal opinion of mine, that you should purchase in the order of release date. If you do want to get into the game and maximize your deckbuilding/variety, purchase 2 Core Sets, Hoth Cycle packs 1-4, Edge of Darkness x2 and then the newer releases later on.

3. Often times, playing a match is 30 minutes or less with skilled players. I always know my decks inside and out as I build them myself over time.

4. Online is usually cheaper than in-store.

Thanks guys. Just pulled the trigger on my purchase today. I went for 1 core and 1 EofD. My wife is always looking for gift ideas for me because she says I'm hard to shop for. She even had me set up a Pinterest page with a wishlist so i can pin the exact stuff i want and she doesn't buy the wrong thing. So i think I'm gonna throw the Hoth packs and maybe an extra core up there and i have a feeling it won't be long before i have everything I need/want. Especially since we have an anniversary coming up. And maybe i can get her to throw in a few homemade "coupons" for 1 free "I'll play one of your dorky games with you", then I'll really be golden. :)

Thanks again

And for the completely uninformed - why? :)

For more options when deck building. The Core set includes only 1 of each different Objective Set and you can Include 2 of the same Objective Set according to the deck building rules of the game. The Force Packs always include 2 of every Objective Set within them so you only need to purchase 1 of each Force Pack. Edge of Darkness is the exact same as the Core Set, only including 1 of each Objective Set within it. The next deluxe expansion, The Balance of the Force, will only require you to purchase 1 copy of it. Each Objective Set within it is limited to only 1 per deck.

Gotcha!

The thread title needs to be updated to reflect the fact that the second deluxe expansion does not in fact require two copies for a complete playing set.
