Do I get the skills from the Career or just the added Specialization?

By HappyDaze, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

When I add a new Specialization from outside my starting career, do the 8 skills associated with the career become career skills for me, or just the four skills listed for the new specialization? I believe it's just the four with the specialization, but I'm hoping for confirmation.

You only get the skills that come with the specialization. See page 93.

Nope, just the four listed as being bonus career skills for that specialization.

The eight skills attached to a career are only available when taking that career, and you only get one career during your character's adventuring life.

That's what I thought. Thank you.

No multiclassing careers, eh?

Nope. The only "multiclassing" as things stand is via Specializations.

You don't really need to multiclass careers since you have access to everything in each career, some stuff just costs more.

Yeah, I have to say, I think it's a pretty cool feature that you can build a character from a mix of specs, even those from careers other than your own. It is one of my favorite things about the game.

Yes very seamless multiclassing. I love it.

So are there any career skills that only show up in careers rather than specializations? I'm away from book for a week, so I can't check.

Unlikely, but also remember that unless you're going to be buying more than 2 or 3 ranks in a given skill, it's far cheaper in the long run to just buy it as a non-career skill (+5 XP cost per rank) than it is to buy additional non-career specializations.

There's also the Well-Rounded Talent, if you really need to get more career skills without getting a relevant specialization.

You only get the skills that come with the specialization. See page 93.

I'll start by saying I agree with this statement, that you only are "supposed" to get the Bonus Career Skills that are a part of the specialization.

However, reading page 93 does nothing to clarify this and in fact, it is exactly that page that caused me to come here seeking an answer to this very question. To wit, page 93 says:

In addition, each specialization has career skills. These skills now count as career skills for the character...

Then when one pages back to look at the various specializations, each one has a title with the Career: Specialization Talent Tree and the text that immediately follows says "Career Skills" followed by "Bonus Career Skills".

If one were to take the reading of the words as they are written, one would get all the career skills. Though as indicated, I don't think that is the intent.

Therefore, I do think this is a bit of errata in that page 93 should say:

In addition, each specialization has bonus career skills. These bonus skills now count as career skills for the character...
