Multiple unopposed rewards ?

By Model800, in Star Wars: The Card Game

I'm having a little bit of struggle (not with the force!) but with this little rule:

It seems to me that gaining some damage to objectives thru unopposed rewards can be a little easy!

Example:

LS: all units exausted

DS: 3 units ready to attack!

DS: Engages with only 1 unit at the time, winning the edge battle automatically.

Proceeds to another engagement until all are exausted and in the end the DS side gains 3 damaged objectives with this multiples engagements ?

( I know this as some drawbacks, like the DS can't defend in the LS turn... but it can become a game of unopposed rewards !) I am missing something out ??

Thank you!!

That is how unopposed bonuses work. 1 per engagement.

That is why it is a terrible idea to over extend yourself on the attack, need to save some stuff for defense on your opponents turn.

Generally this is an issue with newer players, especially those that used to play MtG. In this game you do not need to attack every turn. In fact, it is beneficial to hold back units so you can defend and so when it's your next turn, you can attack with a full hand for edge battles.

Generally (but not always, obviously), if you are trading unopposed attacks every turn, the LS is more likely to win. LS needs 3 objectives. DS generally needs 4 (or 3 with a turn or two before the attacks started, depending on if they kept the force).

If your DS opponent is really aggressive like this regularly, hold back units to defend then counterattack.

Its why in my opinion Navy, and Rebels are harder decks to play for new players. Navy is so tempted by an over extension of the LS player that they might take a big swing, whipe out 2 objectives and leave 2 open for the LS to destroy next round. unless you can then whipe out the rest of the LS objectives they will probably push through and blow up 1 more easly.

This game offers a incredible game depth! But to be honest I'm really a late bloomer on card games (age 32), and, surprisingly, Star Wars LCG was my first card game ever and I was a great choice.

I also started to play magic, a little bit because I needed some opponents to my game (SW) and you know, Magic avid players will make you play their game also, and I'm a cool guy and learned the game -_-' . And I can say both games are very distinct. the depth of Star Wars just makes me think with strategy and never lose hope, the game can turn around : )

On the Topic:

A few weeks ago I had this epiphany (or by reading the rules :P ) that it was possible to have multiple engagements and that changed even more the options of playing. With multiple engagements comes multiples rewards and after some games the DS side usually can play more units ( arggh espo troopers!) in the table, making it real tempting to start hunting that unopposed rewards. Thank you very much for the insight, great strategy points of view here!
