Each dice pack comes with one. They are used when I upgrade difficulty with dark side points. They are also used when an enemy has appropriate skill ranks: I've already got two sets of dice, so I have 2 red d12s. Am I gonna need 5-6 of them if an enemy has say 6 ranks in an ability plus 5 ranks in a skill? That seems hefty.
How many red dice will I need?

For that matter, how many yellow dice am I gonna need? I imagine it would cap out at 6, so with 2 per set, I guess I will need to buy 3 sets of dice for that? Not as bad as the potential 5-6 sets of dice I may need with the red dice. I am thinking late-game. I know it shouldn't be an issue at first, but eventually, I will need 6 of each d12, right? Or am I off here?
Yeah, I'm a little disappointed the packs only come with one Challenge die, I would think two in a pack would be good. Just look at some of the minion stats in the back. For example, the Hutt Crime Lord has a Willpower of 5 and Discipline of 5 so any opposed Discipline roll will require the PC to roll 5 Challenge die.
Honestly if you have an iPad or Android tablet I would highly recommend the Star Wars Dice app.
Yancy
Well, that Hutt would require 5, plus a destiny point would add one, so I would need 6 red challenge dice. Each set has 1 and is $15, so for 6 challenge dice I am looking at spending $60 on dice and having way too much of everything else? That will be 18 green dice, for example.

Correction... $90 on dice to get the required 6 red dice.
Use the dice app for the rare occasions where you need more, I guess
I think the contents of the dice pack are basically just the beginner box contents repackaged, and those in turn stem from the early beta days, when there simply were not that many red dice routinely needed, as the Adversary talent didnt exist yet, and in general upgrading bad dice was actually discouraged.

That just seems odd, because if the dice don't cover me, why push the cheaper app like that? I prefer solid dice, not app dice. Dot get me wrong, I'm probably gonna end up forking over the cash for more sets until I have enough total, it just seems odd. I posted here because I was wondering if maybe there is a cap on red dice that I don't know about, like enemies can only have one per skill or something.

Or any free online alternative if money is an issue.
I like this one: http://game2.com/eote/
Edited by AazlainAlso, the book includes a standard dice conversion table. Very cumbersome, I know, but from what I understand, needing more than 1 or 2 red dice at a time is probably rare. So include some standard d12's and muscle through it, I suppose.
Or, get some blank d12's and paint symbols on it. Might be a fun project.
If you do, however, buy 6 sets of dice, maybe you could give the extra green ones to each player so they can have their own. At the very least, let them use their own green dice just for the session so you're not passing them around all the time.

That is an excellent idea. Thank you.

Actually, if you spent a Destiny Point, you'd add a purple die, not a red die. If you upgrade a pool with no difficulty dice, you add a difficulty die, not a challenge die (page 21).

That is correct. Thank you. So maximum I would need is 5 sets. Everyone at my table, myself included, have an unreasonable disdain for dice apps which is probably not deserved. That means I'm looking at 3 more sets for the total 5, so $36-45 depending on where I buy them. To be honest, I've spent more than that on dice before. Who hasn't?
i'm starting with 4 sets for now. Might add another 1-2 soon, though. Definitely don't want to deal with the same supply issue that came up with WFRP dice.
I made my own dice during the Beta period using the sticker PDF in the Beta resources area of the site and printed them on label sheets which I then cut out and stuck on. I have bought two sets of diuce myself as I also prefer nice professional solid dice, but for those extra die that you need beyond those in the Dice pack it is a good workaround. Also possibly FFG will release the sets of each dice type for those who want more of one particular dice type.

I'm hoping that FFG will sell single dice in their online store so I can fill out the two proficiency dice, four challenge dice and five force dice I will need to cover any eventuality in the game.
Well, rather than saying that you NEED to buy multiple dice sets just to have 4 or 5 Challenge dice for the very, very rare circumstances when you might require that many, you can always just roll the 1 or 2 you have, take note of what came up, and then roll again.
Sure, it might take an extra 15 seconds or so, but it'll save you like sixty bucks.
Rikoshi has the practical answer. To be honest the main reason I have the extra sets is that I generally have proactive players who like to start building their pools prior to their turn. I'm a lucky gm in that regard.
