Elf expansion

By JA_42, in Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay

Hello,

i'm a french GM, and with my players, we like WFR

but Just a double point:

-new expansion (rules/background and campaign)

- especally elf expansion (with history, secrets, but too new carriers and actions cards)

in fact, my elf Player (Wood and High) have very few option about Advanced carriers (advanced, elite, ...)

Just don't forget This Great Game. I'll try answer post about "4 years"

The Elves have never been properly covered in any edition of WFRP.

The problem is that because of elves long lives, creating believable rules for them will make Elf (particularly High Elf) PC's very powerful. There is also the problem of High Magic and how to make practitioners from the Tower of Hoeth playable in WFRP.

I wouldn't expect anything too soon if ever, though I would be delighted to be proved wrong.

I totaly agree your comment and vision about elves (and how powerful they are... they could be...).

And it's the reason why any expansion could be great... (absolutly not to powerbuild character, but to limit them, as dwarves)

for example:

- High Magic: of course so powerful because using all magic winds... create some arcanes cards with more "effect" than "damages"... or maybe very costly, 7 to 12 magic points... but it's not really the part (of elves and high elves) I like... A "battle" and adventurer high elves mage probabely use more basic spells? and wooden elves mages more natural and living things magic way?

- Magic elder race : maybe/probably wooden (and high) can have some "can trip" like without learning "official" High Magic? just learn when child?

- other carrier: what after Hoeth sword? after wardancer?

- other (again yes ;) ): what about artefact crafter (like runesmith for dwarves)? about emissary (of many sort)? about healer? about priest? about poet/artist/... ? about eagle rider? unicorn rider? about fearies? about..; many things

so yes, It's totaly true, elves (high elves) are so powerful... but it's not a reason to declined ;) just a challenge (challenge dice to create expansion test of course).

and, about background, I need (realy want know) their total history (with dark part, dark elves)... FFG initiate this vison/secret in any expansion (probabely Magic Wind?) with a sentence, very short, about any information elves have and other races not and why they really switch magic winds for human being...

could be a very great expansion...

again...

I read again carrier and I know another point that's missing:

nothing about "wooden art of bow" nor "high elves vision of army"...

I think it's the main point for my players (elves players)... 2 elves, a High and a wooden one...

the high one is from a merchant family, still established near Marienburg. He choose not travel for trading but prefer discover the world (beginning point) and choose a rural carrier ranger like... so at beginning, he search about a missing merchant with a debt for his family. Last time seen in Stromdorf but disapear after a night in a rest, where owner is an halfeling... after that, about progression, must choose more and more human way and not elven tainted way...

the wooden one choose to be envoy (but in fact, motivation was revenge. she want kill someone in the city guard of Stromdorf :) :) yes, I work hard to introduce characters) with some ballistic capabilities (as every wooden elves :) ). after that, of course waywatcher... but after? think about assassin (roleplay, but very human) or maybe crime lord (because possible for wooden elves and it's a "long" carrier -many carriers in reality-)

twice player are little disappointed about this options, this default options...

other regular players (two human, one wizard -no problem of course- and one pit fighter that become mercenary...) it's more simple... of course human are more "flexible" but like dwarves, they have a lot of fun option (knight, zealot, ...) even if they want choose this way. It's possible, players know they have a lot of options... elves players not

It will hopefully be of use, at least when it comes to the High Elves.

But yes, there needs to be more WE careers, and I would propose the following:

- An advanced Waywatcher career (or more proper Waywatchers, more like)

- Ditto for the Wardancers

- Eternal Guard

- Spellsinger and Spellweaver mages

- Glade Rider and/or Wild Rider, and possibly Warhawk riders?

Many of these whould be quite easily created by tweaking existing careers, like keeping the skills and characteristics for the ones that build on others, but changing the career ability and adding a talent slot. The Eternal Guard are known for their distinctive fighting style, so they should need a handfull of action cards. A couple of high-level actions would also be nice for the WWs and WDs. Asrai mages are not nearly as powerful as their Asur counterparts, so they could work much like human spellcasters with access to maybe three schools of magic (at least the lores of Life and Beasts), as well as a few unique spells.

Also, on a slightly related note: am I the only one thinking that the Waywatcher career should be called Glade Guard instead, since they are supposed to be basic Asrai warriors?

Thanks, that's exatly what I was looking for - for some reason, it wouldn't show up in the signatures of any other posts of yours that I could find.

Absolutely awesome stuff, by the way. If I was the great cosmic game master, I would have given you a lifetime supply worth of fortune points for that.

If not double posted already, and if still relevant, you can also take a look at the Liber Fanatica website where you can find another Elf-related great work project.

Not anymore! I updated it to version provided in your signature.
