Hobbits

By chrsjxn, in Strategy and deck-building

Obviously there're going to be a ton of hobbit specific cards in The Black Riders. Like Hobbit Cloak (spoiled: http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_news.asp?eidn=4137 ), which this deck would kill for.

But until then, we've got a few cards that only work when your party is all hobbits, and I've been trying to build decks that work with them right now. So far I've had reasonable success at Encounter at Amon Din, Journey Down the Anduin, and Hunt For Gollum.

Here are my thoughts:

1) The deck wants to make Frodo awesome. He's got the best stats of the hobbits, and an amazing ability to soak up damage. So I've been including: Fast Hitch, for questing and multiple defenses. Arwen, for an extra point of defense. And Protector of Lorien (which I haven't used in a long time), since Bilbo gives you the cards to use it and it combos well with the extra actions.

2) Dealing with enemies is hard, and expensive without access to the resource boosts you'd get if one of the hobbits was Leadership. Ranger Spikes, Gandalf, and O Elbereth! Gilthonial! are how I've been dealing with that. Northern Tracker and other 2 attack allies help, but it takes a long time to build up attack strength that way.

3) Hobbit Sense is great if you can win without defeating the enemies engaged with you. Small Target takes too much to set up unless you want to gamble. And with Frodo's defensive awesomeness, Pippin's ability is hard to use. All of them have been a little disappointing so far.

Anybody else been trying the hobbits out? What do you think of them so far? And what would you really like to see that will make them better?

i think my answer is mainly your first sentence- hobbits have not yet got going enough to work well...but they will

check out my thread on dark knowledge + small target...i think its a combo worth setting up, needing only 2 cards
