How do work with equipment upgrades?

By FreeXenon, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Base modifiers makes sense to me, I think. You pay the money (1500) and Hard Points (2) and you get the base affect.

But, how do Modification Options and Mods, Innate fit into things?

How much do the Options and the Innate Mods cost? is it included in the base cost? Do I spend the same money again and it does not take any more Hard Points?

Here is an example:

Base Modifiers: Increases weapon's Range by one Range Band, the weapon gains the Cumbersome 2 Quality,
Modification Options: 0-2 Weapon Quality (Accurate + 1)
Mods, Innate ·'alent Mod (Sniper Shotl, Innate Talent Mod (Soft Spot).
Hard points Required: Two.
Cost : 1,500 credits.

The answers can be found on page 187.

The base mod is what you get for the cost. The mod options cost 100CR and requires a Hard (PPP) Mechanics check, increased by 100CR and +1 Purple die for each additional mod added. Mods don't require any additional hard points.

For your example, for 1,500CR you have a longer range, but heavier weapon that takes up 2 hard points. Now that you have a sniper rifle, you want to make sure you hit with it, so you add both Accurate +1 mods. That requires 200CR and a Daunting (PPPP) Mechanics check.

If you succeed, you now add 2 boost die (UU) to all your attacks with the weapon. If you fail, you can't increase the accuracy of the weapon at all, but you can try to add other mods.

I see. I basically remember reading through that chapter. I will read through that again.

So, mod innate follow the same process?

If you fail to add the mods you cannot try again?

Do you have to add all of the mods at the same time? Say I want to add both accuracy mods and the innate, would that be a formidable task, or can I add one and then add the other. Perhaps I add one now and then another in next week?

Thanks!

Shouldn't it technically be 100cr and a Hard (PPP) Mechanics check for the first Accurate +1 mod and then 200cr and a Daunting (PPPP) Mechanics check for the second?

After all, you're adding two separate +1 mods, not a single +2 mod.

I think the modification options should be added separately yes, even identical ones. At least that's how I'd do it.

Same here.

Thanks guys. Your explanation plus the page number helped immensely.

The text doesn't specify if it's all at once or each mod separately. I guess it would be safer to do one than the other, though.

Agreed!
