For those who already have seen it... Is the Gamemaster's Kit worth it?

By El_Tonio, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

What exactly does it come with? Looks like a screen with info that readily available and quickly learned, plus an adventure.

Can you tell us about the adventure? Does it look good?

Does it include anything else that we should factor into the decision?

Trying to figure out if it is a good investment compaired to say another X-Wing ship I need.

Thanks!

I haven't done a full indepth read of the adventure. It seems nice enough, I would say though your purchasing decision should be based purely on the screen itself, the adventure booklet is just a nice addon but not worth it on it's own.

I really like the screen, it has a lot of reference material keeping my games going quickly, just it's very funny that they packaged it as a screen considering that this is one of those games where you make most of your rolls open.

The GM Screen is one of the best I've ever seen. It has tons of the charts and tables, as well as page references.

I own the GM screen. The reference tables are invaluable, and the quality of the screen itself is impressive. It's basically the same material as the jacket of a hard cover book. It's not by any means flimsy, and the art on the player's side is cool.

Seconded. Definitely worth it to pick it up if you're going to be GMing.

I'm sold on it, probably going to order one more set of dice and the GM kit from Mini-market while the prices are still that low.

I've read the adventure and like it. It starts out as fairly standard work on behalf of a Hutt crime boss, but then takes an interesting twist; I think it would facilitate some good roleplaying.

It is of excellent quality with charts that im sure will be valuable into the next two core rulebooks (critical hit tables) as well.

Thanks for the feedback! I think I'll add it to my wish list, and get it next time I have a $100 order so I can get free S/H.

Totally worth it. The tables are all useful and well laid out for quick reference. I also got lots of complements around the table about how good the screen looked. A good GM Screen can really set the mood of a table.

The adventure module that comes with it is also pretty good, probably good for a session or two also.

For the screen alone its worth it, the added adventure and nemesis stuff just makes it sweet!

As I have stated in another thread, the quality of the screen is stunning. It is like a hardbound book cover... or a FFG board from a boardgame. It is NOT posterboard. It is the best screen I have ever seen. Usually when I look at a screen, I am like, "Yeah whatever, what are the extras like?" Once seeing this one, I would have paid $20 for it w/o the adventure.

Worth it? Absolutely. Essential? Depends.

If money isn't an object then get it all, you'll be glad you did. If you are trying to "bang for the buck" yourself into EotE, then I'd recommend nabbing an extra set or two of dice (or picking up the dice app if that floats your boat) before glomming on to the GM screen.

Good to hear. The GM screen for WFRP was well made, but badly designed, the charts on the inside were pretty poorly laid out and quickly out of date, so its nice to hear that this one is not only well made, but well laid out as well.

I tried getting one today, but they were all sold out... :(

I tried playing with it today, didn't like it in the way of the table. I set it down flat. So much better. Sure I had stuff on top of it, but any information I needed I just shoved the stuff out of the way and used.

I still use the combat reference tables for building dice pools that was posted here during the beta though.

I don't like screens since there act as a barrier between GM and players, but this makes a nice reference book.

Fair warning , the font on the screen is quite small and not terribly friendly to those with poor eyesight.

But yeah, the quality is tops.

Its very worth it. The quality of it is just superb. I would have to rate this in the top 3 screens I have ever had my hands on. With this system I prefer to do the rolls in the open for everyone. So the screen is a little bit off to the side with all the notes and everything from the adventure hidden from view.

Yup, first thing I opened when I picked up my book, screen dice combo from my FLGS.

The screen is amazing.. lovely piccy, all the info you need, as lots of others have said the adventure is good and the nemesis info is very good

Yeah, I love the screen. Find the weapons table the most useful reference as it has it all there though I so agree. Most of the rolls made are open. There is actually no need (like DnD D20) to be hiding rolls as GM. To be honest, I try my utmost to have the players roll as much as possible since the versus mechanic is in the dice and they have the NPC stats as red and purple die. Nevertheless, the screen is great as its a easy reference tool that just makes things move much quicker. Worth the buy just for the screen.

Darker text would help but FFG seems to like lighter text.

i hate to negate the awesome artwork but I'll probably lay mine flat on the table. 1. my eyesight is terrible and the overhead lighting will help me use the screen and 2. i'm going to run open rolls. no ACE dice like WFRP so there's nothing to really hide behind the screen.

The screen is very solid, thicker than a lot I have dealt with in the past. The information on the screen is top notch and will be very useful. The artwork is fine, a little sparse, but I am biased, as I prefer a black background to clip pictures to for the players.

The book itself is decent, interesting adventure that could fit into any campaign, and the nemesis section is well written, if fairly brief.

I think it is definitely worth the price. Taken separately, I would definitely buy either of these products for half the price.

The screen is very high quality and has tons of tables and charts on the inside.

When I had the beginner game, I just photocopied a bunch of the tables out of the book and laminated them (creating my own poor man's GM screen). I guess I'll be ditching those in lieu of the new screen.

It's very thick and sturdy, like a hardcover book.

Also, if you're going to get the dice, I would recommend spending the $10 extra dollars and buying the Beginner Box if you don't already have it. It comes with the same set of dice, a starter adventure, and pre-made characters. It's also got some fold-out maps, a neat map of the inside of the Milleni- I mean the YT-1300, and tokens for PCs and enemies.

And a watered down version of the rules good for beginners.
