Ruler of Morthond (mono-leadership outlands deck)

By Pharmboys2013, in Strategy and deck-building

So i havent used an outlands deck since the Steward's Fear was released which already feels like a long time ago (my deepest sympathies to the foreign players)...after i received my Amon Din adventure pack, i really wanted to use the new attachment "lord of morthond". While i'm aware the Leadership/Lore combo is ideal for outlands because of the access to Berevor and other card drawing utlities, i wanted to test the waters of using a mono sphere deck for this strategy...and its a lot of fun.

Heroes (starting threat = 25)

Hirluin the Fair

Theodred

Balin

total cards: 50

Gameplan:

Looking for preferably steward of gondor or lord of morthond in my opening hand, if i get both thats fantastic but i settle for either. 3 copies of lord of morthond may seem excessive for a card that can only have 1 copy in play at a time, but it is imperitive i get it attached within the first few rounds so that i can make the most out of it (considering it currently has a max of 15 uses).

Card draw is generated primarily through lord of morthond and king under the mountian. Valiant sacrifice is also helpful in the beginning of the game as i throw chump blockers at the encounter deck while my outlanders are set up. Gaining Strength is actually quite useful as i generally use all my resources within my turn or if absolutely necessary can be pitched for king under the mountain

Worth noting that the newer event Strength of Arms is a game changer, just as lure of moria was for the dwarfs, using strength of arms with a fully fledged outland army usually clears the quest stage right then and there

On a final note...I only use Balin because he seemed like a reasonable low threat hero with a good ability but he can really be replaced by any Leadership hero and is not essential for the deck. If Balin is replaced (with say...Prince Imrahil for a more thematic approach) I would remove the 2 copies of king under the mountain and replace them with Erestor whom while more costly provides a very similar card drawing effect. I'll be looking forward to seeing what the mono-booster leadership hero is and if he can help this deck (although if its Faramir it would have to be a good effect because the ally version is a stud already)

What quests did you try it against and how did it do?

three times against Encounter at Amon Din (been playing it non-stop since i got it) and 2 twice against Massing at Osgilith (normally how i judge if a deck is decent or not)

has one each time, some more difficult than others...even sacrificed Theodred (ever so thematically might i add) during stage 3B of Osgilith

The deck flows really well, i'm enjoying it

Quick question: What quest would you compare Amon Din to the most? And do you really like the quest?

Hmmm it almost reminds me of Journey to Rhosgobel but just in the fact that there is an instant condition where you either win or lose although this one is a lot easier to achieve than fully healing Wilyador. It also kind of reminds me of the watcher in the water in how it is a short quest (only 2 stages) with a boss at the end (although not as difficult as the watcher)

i like the quest its relatively brief yet fun, theres no cards that you pray wont come out of the deck like zealous traitor or blocking wargs. its the kind of quest you dont mind playing several times in a row
