Whats everyones first character going to be?

By Ken on Cape, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

I havent haved the time to read through the book yet. But it's a valid reason, another player has it after I talked him into being the GM for this game. Usually, like in 99/100 times I'm the GM, but he wants to give it a try and he's a big SW fan.

So this means I can figure out my own character for once.

I'll be playing a Female Human from the (self-made) planet of Neembion. Think paradise meets 1950s american suburbia turned up to eleven. Its a beautiful prison, but nobody except for my character seems to notice. She was raised a proper member in the outskirts of the republic/empire but was refused to join the military due to poor eye-sight or something similar. She took the first merchant ship off the planet as soon as she could after this but got into contact with some shady businessmen that took advantage of her, like working for free and the like. Eventually she got into contact with an Quaren crimelord on Nar Shaddaa that gave her some new clothes, some money, a place to live and a few simple jobs to get an easy living. But favors you know, she has to repay them bound by some strange honour that binds her, and she kinda like him as a friend and employer. Everything turned up really sh*tty during a simple job, smuggling spice (actually medical components) to a suppressed populace on an remote planet in the empire. Everything seemed fine, but then customs and shoot outs happened before she could blind and soon she found herself in the escape pod crashed in the ground on this planet. The only good, and even more strange thing is that this planet, without saying it to anyone is her home planet, that has recently rebelled against the Empire and she wanted a chance to see if friends and family where okay. Her family was still intact and lived quite a good life but the people and her family suffered. She couldn't stand this and she hijacked an ship a flew away from the planet, crying a lost in herself when it shows that her uncle is also on-board the same ship. He tells that he was once a Jedi knight who returned to his homeplanet during the purge and hid, until the empire now took a military action against Neembion. For a few days on our way back to Nar Shaddaa he tells the ways of the force and about the jedi order, in very basic ways. Back on Nar Shaddaa he vanishes again, to continue hiding from the empire. Recently returend with an secret oath to become an jedi and bound by favor towards the Quarren crimelord with the knowledge that my people and family is under siege by the empire my character will start our campaign in the sky-streets of the smugglers moon.

Well, that's my character. And Btw, she's a female human smuggler/FSE if you didn't notice ;)

/Poseur

I believe I am probably the permanent GM.

I'm plaing my male Twi'lek Survivalist named Zalada which i'm really looking forward too.

Here is the character my son created...

Name: HK-D1 (CK variant)

Species: HK (Hunter Killer) Droid

Profession: Bounty Hunter Specialization: Assassin

D1 came to existence on the planet Mustafarr, when he was assembled from assorted parts, after the HK Droid uprising led by HK-47 was put down. An explorer , Benn Dovver, was scavenging Droid parts to sell on the Black market. Benn, in his infinite wisdom, decided he could make more money for a fully assembled Droid than just parts.

He collected parts from the all over the battlefield, parts from all the HK humanoid variants. He assembled the parts, combining at least four differing droid processing units into the semblance of a working Droid brain. He then activated the unit.

D1, was born. Benn's first act (and his last) was to ask D1 to run a diagnostic check on its systems. D1 dutifully did so and reported his finding to Benn. "This Unit's functioning is satisfactory...Yours is not..." D1 then promptly broke Benn's neck. D1 took Benn's ship and departed the planet.

D1 found it could not remember anything before it's activation. It did had skills it could access, and had something else... A burning hatred of all organic flesh creatures. These "Fleshies" were a blight on the Galaxy. Only Droid life should exist. It made sense to D1 that it's superior form should continue on. D1 did not know why it thought this way, but did not question this function. For it was the reason of this function that drove D1 to continue.

The ship's auto navigation systems took D1 to Tatooine. The ship landed at the Palace of one Teemo the Hutt. When 3 of Teemo's guards approached the ship, D1 proceeded to eradicate them, with little effort. Teemo, impressed with the ease with which D1 dispatched his guards, offered D1 a deal. D1 knew it needed to obtain resources to continue to function, and carry out its programming. Teemo offered D1 resources if it would "take care of some issues" Teemo was having with some organics. D1 accepted.

D1 dealt with these "issues" Teemo was having with other organics quickly and efficiently. Teemo rewarded D1 with the resources he need to continue its functioning. This arrangement worked, until...

Teemo worried that D1's knowledge of all the rivals D1 had assassinated could be used against Teemo. Teemo decided to wipe D1's memory core. Teemo's Gamorrean guards were escorting D1 and three other fleshies down to the Palace detention center, when D1 grabbed an ax from one of the guards and cut his head off. D1 and the fleshies escaped the Palace, with the remaining guards in hot pursuit.

As the group fled through the town, one of the female human fleshies grabbed D1 and pushed him into a Cantina. D1 know it had to react, and react quickly...

I'm going to be the GM. So my answer is my favorite...

ALL OF THE THINGS.

Since i'm the GM: EVERYTHING!

My players so far will be a Twi'lek Bounty Hunter and a Droid. Not sure on the class for the droid yet.

My players are: a Human Smuggler Scoundrel, a Trandoshan Hired Gun Marauder, a Trandoshan Bounty Hunter Assassin, a Wookie Technician Outlaw Tech, and a Bothan Colonist Doctor.

I am going to make an Explorer that's a Wookie.

To make sure I could teach the character gen, I am working on a Bothan spy who has been burned by the Bothan Spynet (basically a re-skin of Michael Westen from Burn Notice on USANetwork).

Here's my first character, going step-by-step. I apologize in advance for the length of the post.

Step 1 Determine Character Concept and Background: In the galactic underworld, the powerful leaders revel in the brutal violence, including displays of gladiatorial combat involving menageries of vicious predators. From Jabba’s rancor pit to the Geonosian Petranaki Arena, spectacles such as these fuel a demand for the live capture of exotic species from harsh, backwater worlds. An enterprising–and somewhat insane–individual can turn a good profit supplying that demand. Meet Sudo Roolek, Rodian huntsman extraordinaire.

Step 2 Determine Strarting Obligation: For a time, life was pretty easy for Sudo. He hunted whenever he could, took well paying jobs, and managed to stay clear of any debt, at least until a year ago. He took a pretty simple job for a Tw’lek gangster working for the Huttese Desilijic clan–obtain a clutch of Kinrath eggs from Kashyyk and return it. With a small advance for expenses, Sudo set off to retrieve the unborn arachnoids. Complications arose when the Imperial Forces set up a orbital blockade of the planet following the Battle of Yavin. He was arrested attempting to run the blockade under suspicion of collaborating with the Rebellion and his cargo was destroyed. Eventually the authorities released Sudo, but he still received fines for a series of custom violations and now has a criminal record [Obligation 5]. To make matters worse, the Kinrath eggs were intended as a gift for Jabba the Hutt to gain favor with the notorious crime lord in hopes to gain interest in the spice operations on Ryloth. With Sudo in detention and no gift for Jabba, the spice operation was assigned to another underboss. While the advance was relatively small, his employer was extremely embarrassed by the incident and has since claimed a debt of services to make up for his loss of face in the syndicate [Obligation 5]. Note: The Starting Obligation of 10 is based on a party of 4.

Step 3 Select Character Species: With their cultural heritage of “the hunt” and racial special abilities, a Rodian is the perfect choice for the concept. Sudo gains one rank in the Survival skill and one rank in the Expert Tracker talent for free.

Step 4-5 Select Career and Specialization: The unique role of a huntsman is to track, trap, and transport incredibly dangerous beasts to fill the arenas of the criminal elite utilizing his expertise in combat, survival, and Xenology; therefore, the Bounty Hunter (Survivalist) is a natural fit. With Bounty Hunter Career skills in Athletics, Brawl, Perception, Pilot (Planetary), Pilot (Space), Ranged (Heavy), Streetwise, and Vigilance, Sudo assigns one rank each to Athletics, Perception, Ranged (Heavy), and Vigilance. The Survivalist tree grants additional Career skills in Knowledge (Xenology), Perception, Resilience, and Survival. Sudo places another rank in Survival and Knowlege (Xenology).

Step 6 Invest Experience Points: With 100 points, Sudo first upgrades his Characteristics, increasing Brawn from 2 to 3 [30 points], Cunning from 2 to 3 [30 points], and Willpower from 1 to 2 [20 points]. Sudo gains a second rank in Ranged (Heavy) [10 points] and a single rank in Resilience [5 points], The Stalker talent [5 points] gives Sudo an edge when trying to sneak up his quarry.

Step 7 Determine Derived Attributes: After spending the experience and calculating Sudo’s Derived Attributes, his base Soak Value is 3, his Wound Threshold is 13, and his Strain Threshold is 12.

Step 8 Determine Starting Motivations: Sudo is motivated by two factors–Greed and Expertise. He is driven by a need to perfect his skills to become the greatest hunter in the galaxy...and get rich doing it.

Step 9 Choose Gear and Description: Sudo Roolek was born and raised on his home world of Rodia. He apprenticed at a young age with an uncle, a journeyman bounty hunter, before coming of age and striking out on his own. Though Sudo is a registered member of the guild, he seldom takes on sentient acquisitions for work, finding that normal bounty hunting lacks the elegance of the traditional hunt. He has no love for the Empire or the Rebellion and is disinclined to get between them.

Sudo is 1.7m tall and lean with the typical features of a Rodain. He is easily identified by the large blue birthmark that covers his right cheek and a profusion of green spines on his head and lower jaw. His clothes and gear are frequently adorned with trophies of his kills–claws, teeth, hides, and horns.

With his 500 starting credits, Sudo selects a Czerka Arms 6-2Aug2 Hunting Rifle [250] with Extra Reloads [25] as his primary weapon, a Combat Knife [25] for its dual role as a secondary weapon and survival tool, and a set of Heavy Clothing [50]. His personal gear includes a Commlink [25], Backpack [50], Climing Kit [50], and a Stimpack [25].

Final Rollup:

Sudo Roolek, Rodian Bounty Hunter (Survivalist)

Characteristics: Brawn: 3; Agility 3; Intellect 2; Cunning 3; Willpower 2, Presence 2

Skills: Athletics 1, Knowledge (Xenology) 1, Perception 1, Ranged (Heavy) 2, Resilience 1, Survival 2, Vigilance 1.

Talents: Expert Tracker 1, Stalker 1.

I am not a big enough Star Wars fan to be able to flesh out my back story to my liking, but I do know what I am shooting for (anybody up on SW lore enough to help me with a background and willing to do so, please shoot me a PM)

Best I have figured out without the book is...

Human, Hired Gun, Mercenary Soldier

After a particularly nasty mission, Dex was shown what the Empire was truly up to and willing to do. Dex wanted nothing to do with the extermination of peaceful people. To include women and children. He finished his last mission for the Empire in fear for his own life, but the image of the child looking out the window of the building he was about to blow haunts him to this day. He was told that the building was full of traitors to the Empire and used as a command center. It was their objective to blow the building and gather as much information as possible out of the rubble. Dex blew the building as ordered and on time and carried on, but at his first opportunity to go AWOL he left taking much of nothing. While trained as a soldier, Dex mostly works for himself and has a hard time trusting military leaders of any government or cause. He has taken jobs as a smuggler, body guard and has even been a bouncer when he was in dire need of coin.

My character is a Human Smuggler Pilot Tuco Pacho. A former slave he owes a favor (debt of honour) to the man who freed him. If owes his life to that man, and if calls Tuco will come.

Tucos motivation is to be the best Pilot in the Galaxy. For him being a pilot is more than a job, it represents freedom. As a pilot he can go where he wants and do what he likes. And if he has to hang with a group to get a ship to pilot, that's what he'll do.

Venthrac and I are going to try co-GMing a game. I'll be playing a Twi'lek smuggler scoundrel. Backstory is he played a part in ousting his clan's former leadership, but before the new leadership could take command, other Twi'lek clans double-crossed his and sold most of his clan into slavery. He managed to escape and vowed to free his people and liberate their former city.

So he has family as a motivation. Unfortunately, along the way he also developed a motivation for greed. He'd *like* to save his people, but doing so costs money, and, well...with a ship to take care of and operating expenses and living expenses and so forth...

At some point I plan to move him toward the Force-sensitive exile talent tree with Influence being his first power, and then seeing where things go from there. Looks like Influence will tie in nicely with his skills in Deception.

I'm probably cursed to be a GM for most of my time playing this game (which i'm actually totally cool with.)

But, when I actually get to play, I already have a few ides.

Jawa Mechanic/Outlaw Tech (Maybe Gadgeteer later too). UTINI
Togruta Gadgeteer/Marauder/Assassin maybe using a Force Pike.
Nautolan something.
Kel Dor something.
Jawa something/Force Sensitive Exile!

Half of these will probably show up as NPCs in campaigns I run before I actually get to play them though XD.

1R0N-CH3F lives! Here's how I rolled him up.

I debated swapping the vibrosword for a vibroaxe, and swapping the blaster for padded armor. A Force Pike can also be used to save credits, while a holdout stun blaster for 100 CR makes a lot of fluff sense instead of the light blaster. He works fine without the extra XP obligation, as well.

As an NPC, he might make more sense as a straight marauder--mechanics isn't the most necessary thing for a Nemesis intended to die ;). And you could counteract the loss of Defensive Stance with a second vibrosword (dual-wielding killer chef droid FTW!)

Admittedly, he might then be an unlicensed bounty hunter--but that just adds some more flavor :).

Also fun--giving him anesthetic-dipped swords. I'm pretty sure a vibrosword gash counts as injection.

As I don't have anything for this game yet, (including the Beginner's Game) I can't be certain of anything specific. Most likely when I get it I will be the GM for my group of friends so in the off-chance I ever get to play as a character I have created it would be something similar to this. Maybe my character will just appear in some of my campaigns, with the group slowly learning his backstory along the way.

(Species undetermined) male bounty hunter. The character would feel guilt and a sense of duty based upon someone he once knew who sacrificed everything to save him from some trouble. The PC would then go on to become a bounty hunter with the ideals of his savior, namely that everyone deserves justice. In that sense, the PC would only collect bounties upon those who are criminal in nature instead of any bounty possible. Although this character tries to hold to the philosophies of his pseudo-mentor, there is a time or two where he has broken his code of honor in dire circumstances. In those moments, the PC would feel so horribly distraught that it forces him to further develop a mindset of "justice not revenge." Obviously his beliefs will be tested.

I bought the game and will be running it so my character will be the universe.

Got to play Pash the Smuggler in the Beginner's Game and would probably create a smuggler if I got to play this game.

I'm the GM, so I'm creating a character before anyone else to get the basic under my belt. Nerd Scout is the basic premise for my work in progress. I've got the basic idea of what he's going to be: Explorer Scout, who can survive in the rougher environments, with a passion for dead cultures because he can barely stand any live ones. While he can't stand cultures, he's not opposed to company from individuals who don't try to push their cultural world-view. I'm going to reflect this by taking ranks in survival and lore knowledge, but I'm still working out which his single more important characteristic is going to be.

Funny thing is, I'm learning the game better by doing this then by just trying to read the book.

my first character is a wookiee.

If I ran a PbP game, I'd probably do it over on RPOL.net - I am sorely tempted to do just that.

I forgot about that site...I used to play in a really good 3.5 Dragonlance game there, but after a year or so, it fizzled out. Loved the site though...

My character will be a clone from the anti-imperial army. Lore wise, he would have been a young, untrained child who was evacuated during the second battle for Kamino.

Growing up on the edge of the galaxy, he took up independent Bounty Hunting (gadgeteer), as it paid very well and worked around his schedule.

Knows right from wrong, but doesn't always get involved in the needs of others. Kinda has a sense of humor like Jayne from Firefly. Mainly like the time from the second episode where Malcom and Zoey get into a bar fight because they were on the other side of the line during the war. Malcom looks over and asks Jayne if he is going to help. The camera pans over and you see Jayne leaning back with a drink in hand and says, "I didn't fight in no war.", and takes a drink. However, the "always looking for a good fight" side of him takes control and he goes in swinging with a bar stool.

However, behind the walls he puts up, my character is forever loyal to his comrades. Those comrades being the surviving clones. Those who weren't killed off. There isn't a secret club where they all meet. Hell, meeting another is like having a surprise birthday. They keep in contact, but move on back to their lives. One day though, they will find a cure for the rapid growth hormones. That's his motivation. My character is Obsessed with finding the cure to his rapid aging. For himself, and all of his brothers who were born to die.

The only other person who knows my characters story is the GM. Everyone else is talking about their past adventures and who they are. But I'm playing the "lack of creativity/writers block" card to everyone. Maybe a few sessions in, if it becomes relevant, I'll reveal who my character is in session. Either way, play the character.

My first character is going to be a human slicer.

Since I'm forevergm.jpg probably none.

Otherwise, a Mandalorian Bounty Hunter. After a noodle incident with an Imperial Moff, he finds himself lacking the usual tools of the trade that some heavy Obligation wouldn't allow him to have.

Or, a deep-cover Imperial agent.
