Should I feel bad for wanting to play Sith?

By Juniper_Thornrose, in Star Wars: The Card Game

Greetings folks,

I am new to playing Star Wars. I threw together a Scum and Villainy deck for Dark Side and a Smuggler and Spies deck for Light Side. However, after looking through, I feel that a Sith Control deck would be more my normal play style. For other games I have played, I am more of a defensive style player. For Legend of the 5 Rings, I play a Crane Honor deck, whose goal is to stall my opponent and let me achieve my win condition. I am wondering though, should I feel like I am joining the bandwagon or the winning faction if I play Sith? I don’t want to add in other faction objectives, so it will be Pure (only non-Sith sets will be Neutral). I am planning on sticking with the Smugglers for Light Side, but was wondering if anyone else feels this way sometimes? Is it right to feel like I am just playing it because it is strong or does it actually fit my play style? On that note, would a different Light Side deck fit my defensive play style?

no dont feel bad, sith can make jedi cry some times but other times rebels will blow sith out of the water so fast that its just silly. Right now there is a Rock/Paper aspect to the game, we wont have our scissors untill we get edge of darkness so dont stress about it! I beat sith all the time with my jedi deck too so no worries!

Play what you like. I think having the current top deck also be the one you want to play for flavor reasons is the best situation to be in. Some of us don't have that.

Play the deck the best fits your play style. Dark side can build very good decks that win lots of games either being defensive and controlling, or being very aggressive. Either way, there'll be good matchups and bad matchups. You'll win more games overall and have more fun doing so if you play the style that fits how you like playing.

Don't feel bad at all, it's not your fault it's broke.

You should make no apology for playing Sith. True Sith are motivated by a relentless pursuit of power at any cost. So harness that power and make it your own. Those who underestimate your resolve will be destroyed utterly, and worlds will tremble within your decisive grip.

thank you marth

Thank you all for the replies. I am going to make the Sith deck and play it. However, it looks like it will be for fun as I got distracted (which happens all the time in games for me) by the Scum and Villainy Capture concept. lol. I do still thank everyone for their help.

You should feel worse for playing Crane than for playing Sith.

Some things you should be aware of, though.

1. For tourny play, you have to have both a dark side and a light side deck to play, and you will play both pretty much equally. So unlike L5R you can't pick your favorite faction and ignore all the others.

2. Also for tourny play, slow decks that don't take many objectives tend to lose tie breakers, which come up pretty often in a system where you play 2 games in each round. So pure sith control can have trouble in the tourny scene, because of the way the tiebreakers rules work.

3. Pretty much every lightside deck starts out with the question "How does this deck beat Sith Control"

4. Only one faction lets you force lightning things to death. This is a lot better than being prettier and more goody-goody than other clans.

Trust you feelings Bob_no_Oni!
