Braided Screamers and shuffling

By J_Roel, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

Hey folks, if I use the response on the Braided Screamers to search my top 5 cards and don't find a Dothraki, do I still shuffle? It says I must search, reveal a Dothraki, and add it to my hand, THEN shuffle the remaining cards back into my deck. So, because I haven't successfully resolved everything before the "then", based on precedent, it seems that I don't get to shuffle. However, whenever you search your deck, you are required to shuffle, whether the search effect is successful or not (though searching 5 cards is not searching your deck)...

Seems you're right - you wouldn't shuffle (because you didn't search your deck, and you didn't satisfy the prior-to-then componeent).

Yeah, this has been noticed before. I hope they address it in the next FAQ update.

Same, I want to be able to search again, but if the cards haven't been shuffled, i don't expect to find anything the second time around, lol...

This was much-discussed on agotcards with the eventual decision being that you shuffle no matter what.

This is also how I would handle this until it's clarified in the FAQ.

I don't know - there's no reason why you'd shuffle except for wishful thinking. There's no rules reason to assume it, and it's not like Braided Screamers is a terrible card because you can't shuffle if it fizzles. Some might consider knowing your next 5 cards a reasonable consolation prize. Would it be *nice* if it shuffled? Sure...

I dunno. I'm of the school that anything telling you to search [all or part of] your deck for something, successful or not, you should shuffle.

Although, actually NOT shuffling lessens the power of Braided Screamers. Perhaps that's intentional? It's pretty sick when you keep triggering it multiple times in marshalling, so if you don't shuffle if you don't find one, it shuts it down for that turn.

It definitely shuts it down, which is what prompted me to ask in the first place... I'd like to think I shuffle regardless, lol, but I fear it is just wishful thinking.

I believe Morgan asked Nate and he said you shuffle regardless. Her post is under the card on agotcards.org. I am too lazy to link the card comments using my phone.

Generally, every search has always been shuffled regardless in this game. As one who has played against Braided Screamers I am hopeful that it's not supposed to be shuffled if nothing is found... oh well =)

Thanks Bomb, hand't thought to check agotcards. I'll tell my opponents that Nate said so, if they dispute it, lol

Please tell me he said "because all search effects require you to shuffle". If not, this just totally invalidates the "then" on the card. QA FAIL!
