Star Wars LCG: The Balance of the Force multiplayer expansion and next cycle

By deathmarch, in Star Wars: The Card Game

As for any conspiracy theory involving Disney's purchase of LucasArt, there's nothing giving them credence. The basic approach Disney took is to only keep movie-related production control and then license everything else. Disney has no experience in producing card games, and they have it already licensed to FFG, so why should we be worrying? The videogame example is different, in that LucasArt was developing the games themselves and Disney decided they were not videogame developers, hence now they are licensing it instead (didn't Ubisoft or some other company get a license deal already by the way?)

While I agree with you. I have read many articles and the concensus is that Disney as the new owner is terminating some contracts based on a clause that has something to do with new ownership and not having made the original deal. I am not a lawyer and I am not saying they did it to FFG and I am not claiming any conspiracy. I have just been reading a lot about what Disney is doing with their new product to position it (in their minds) in the best way for the future. And that does not necessarily mean FFG is in trouble or safe.

And as you pointed out, Edge of the Empire and X-Wing has been having a bunch of activity lately.

well i was thinking tatooine from ANH

Farm Boy Luke with his sky hopper

Cantina stuff

Old Ben

owen and beru Pod

Tantive 4 scene Force Pack

stuff like that

I think there is a ton of stuff from Tatooine that we have yet to see.

I think that Tatooine is probably the coolest location to draw fiction from (aside from Bespin). That is until we got the prequels.

I struggle to get even one person to play this game with me, so the idea of multiplayer holds no real attraction for me, but I do like to know what's going on!

Really? I find it easy to get anyone to play Star Wars with me! I let them borrow decks. My real problem is finding Netrunner players. :/

Interesting because Netrunner is much more popular.

There you go. Today's announcements showcase the Balance of the Force expansion. Very exciting!

Now we finally dive into the expanded universe!

Being a Lord of the Rings LCG 'veteran', I suppose I'm used to huge delays between releases, and long periods of nothing. But given the attention Star Wars has had so far, it does seem a bit odd that they're quiet on upcoming releases. If I remember right, the rule book stated both Edge of Darkness and Balance of the Force would be out in the first half of 2013. Nothing to be surprised about FFG missing an expected release, but at least we know lots about the former. That there is nothing at all except the name about the latter does make me think something is perhaps afoot. Maybe they're redesigning the whole thing. It does make sense that they would space out both expansions though, so that one doesn't distract from the other.

I struggle to get even one person to play this game with me, so the idea of multiplayer holds no real attraction for me, but I do like to know what's going on! Hopefully it will be similar to the recent Warhammer multiplayer box, and the cards can still be used in the one-on-one game. Having lots of cards in Game of Thrones that depend on having more than one player just makes them useless to me (yes - FFG should design their games to fit around me, goddammit! )

I am sorry to hear that you are having trouble getting your friends to play Star Wars, I have a pool of friends who get together and play weekly. We had a domino effect of teaching the game and then buying what was available. Hopefully you will be able to get some of your friends to play.

I will admit I am very excited to learn to play both versions of the multiplayer presented in the article. Also the introduction of Dash Rendar is very exciting.

What, have you been sleeping through the Hoth cycle? :P

(Specificaly the Smuggler pods based on characters from an obscure video game.)

Hooray! It's here.

Obscure, sure, but an AWESOME game! When I saw that character, I downloaded an emulator to replay that game. So good.
