Don't Get Cocky + Unopposed Attack

By Hida77, in Star Wars: The Card Game - Rules Questions

Hey, question from the new Smugglers set:

If I attack and my opponent does not defend can I then play the new card Don't Get Cocky?

The card text of Don't Get Cocky may prevent it (see below).

"Reaction: After you win an edge battle by 2 or more Force icons, a target participating unit gains (Black Blast) (Black Blast) until the end of the engagement."

Another way of asking this question would be when your opponent does not defend and you automatically win the edge battle, are you considered to have won by an infinite amount or that no battle occured/totals were calculated and you just win by rulebook effect?

Another, related question (assuming you dont get to automatically play it) would be could I play fate cards until I had a total value of 2 or greater while unopposed to be considered to have won by 2 ore more?

I could go either way on this. Obviously, if you can play it when unopposed it makes the card even more powerful than it is.

As I read it, you only win by 2 or more in that case when you place 2+ force icons into your edge stack. Otherwise, you win 0-0 (just like how the defender would normally win a tie).

Agreed.

To the second question, yes you can play cards into an edge battle when the defender can't to get the 2 force icons you need.

Yes, agree with that too. My attempt to be short and sweet when typing on my phone wasn't clear on that point. Thanks. :-)
