Han and Chewie build question.

By Bjorn Rockfist, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Here is my Han and Chewie list.

Han solo - Gunner

Chewbacca - Draw Their Fire - Gunner - Millennium Falcon

So my question stems from the following. Chewie does a Evade action in his activation phase due to having the Falcon title. Han get attacked and fails to cancel a crit. I then use DTF, since Chewie is within Range 1 of Han, to have Chewie suffer the crit. Can I use the Evade token to cancel the crit? Or is he committed to taking the damage card?

I would think he is already committed to taking the damage card, but I maybe wrong….hopefully lol.

Just trying to clarify this before I start playing this list.

Chewie cannot use his evade token in that instance, but he won't necessarily take a damage card. He'll suffer the results of the uncanceled [critical damage] result, which will result in him either losing a shield token or suffering a face up damage card if he has no remaining shields (which his ability would then immediately flip face down).

I knew if he had to take it he would either loose a shield or turn the crit to a hit if all the shields were gone. I had a reply on A Few Maneuvers forums that said they saw it ruled at the May 4th FFG tourney that you could burn the Evade to cancel it. So the only thing left to do is submit a "Rule Question" to FFG and get my reply from them lol.

Agreed. Knowing that it was ruled it worked at the May 4th FFG Tourney is why I figured I'd ask FFG for a ruling.

The Evade symbol cancels a Hit or Critical Hit symbol on a dice roll, not the damage that comes about as a result of that dice roll. By the time Chewie is taking the damage, the time to modify the dice roll has come and gone, so his Evade token wouldn't do any good anyway.

This doesn't work.

Evade tokens add an extra {Evade} result during Step 5. Only the target has an opportunity to spend the Evade token, so if someone's shooting at Han then Chewie couldn't do it.

Nor could Chewie use his own Evade to cancel the pulled {Critical Hit} even if he could spend the token. Draw Their Fire pulls an uncanceled result. So even if Chewie could spend the token, and had an {Evade} result waiting, by the time the {Critical Hit} moves to Chewie the opportunity to cancel it has passed.

That reads to me like it may have been confusing, but the short answer is "no, this doesn't work" :)
