Squad input needed: Vader + stuff

By nimdabew, in X-Wing

I have been building squads that have a lot of synergy with each other, but redundancy as well. I have created what I think is just about the perfect swarm/action heavy/powerful squad that still has a decent number of ships, but doesn't get overly crowded. The current delima I have is a choice between an Academy Pilot and Howlrunner with Stealth or Winged Gundark and Howl with no stealth. The squad:

Vader (29)

- Squad Leader (2)

Howl Runner (18)

- Swarm Tactics (2)

- Stealth Device (3)

Black Squadron pilot (14)

- Swarm Tactics (2)

Alpha Squadron Pilot (18)

Academy Pilot (12)

I am really torn between the stealth on Howl or going without stealth and upgrading the Academy to Winged Gundark. A shooting PS 8 Winged Gundark could be really powerful, but at the cost of Howlrunner possibly getting killed one turn sooner than normal.

What's your focus?

Howl chains to whoever needs it through the BSp, Vader gets people into position, either the Interceptor with boost/barrel rool, or someone else with barrel roll, or an Evade on Howl if she is going to be taking fire. Howl lets people re-roll within R1, and the Int shoots at PS8 along with Howl and BSP. The squad doesn't have a ton of staying power so the maneuverability and firing first are big components of the list.

Word. It just looks like there is a lot going on. Perhaps you wouldn't mind trading some fire power and mobility for more consistency. Maybe Vader with Squad Leader, Howlrunner with Swarm Tactics, and Black Squadron x3 each with Swarm Tactics. It's 99 points. It's got a lot of redundancy, but it allows for a lot of freedom while you practice how you want to fly with the squad. You can always tweak it after a few games.

There is a lot going on. There are two high value targets, but the muscle comes from the low point pilots. I played it a few nights ago and it took apart a A/Y-Wing list. I think it would work decently against an X-Wing list, but if they start shooting, it would crumble pretty fast.

I was kind of looking at something like this:

Howlrunner is a buffer allowing some rerolls and the swarm tactics for alpha pilot.

Turr and Vader do their thing.
