If I am attacked by a single non-vehicle unit and defend with anything and I activate and sacrifice an Icetromper to remove the attacker before the Edge, do I still have chance to play Edge cards as a defender and activate my defenders combat Icons even if there are no attacking units? And, if so, why?

After someone like Luke assigns as an attacker, you defend with someone with a tactics icon (like an Interrogation Droid), bounce Luke out of the battle with the Ice Tromper, toss away whatever cards you don't want in the edge battle, then strike with your unit's tactics icons, locking down Luke (or whoever), making it harder, if not impossible, for Luke to attack the rest of the turn. It's a "Get out and stay out!" move that can set an LS player's teeth grinding.
