Character Agendas

By HastAttack, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

I've used a character agenda before to replace my normal agenda - this was using a Stark deck and replacing 3 north agenda, so I suddenly needed 6 less power to win the game

After that we checked the forums and were told that you could not replace a normal agenda with a character agenda :(

I would like to get this reconfirmed - If I look at a character agenda card such as Shireen Baratheon:

If Shireen Baratheon would be killed, instead attach her to your House Card as your only agenda with the text

All that this says is that it attaches and becomes your only agenda - there is nothing implied to say that this cannot replace an existing agenda

Could someone please explain why virtually every other card I can think of details the limits of it's use - i.e. If you are not running an agenda etc.

If the intention is that characters can only become agendas if you are not currently running an agenda then where is this stated?

Why doesn't the card simply have the text "If you are not running an agenda:"

thanks

From the FAQ, pg. 12:

(4.20) Character Agendas
A character agenda is any card with the printed
character type that, through a card affect, has
attached to a player's House card as an agenda.
A character agenda cannot attach to a House
card if you already have an agenda of any
type on your House card.
Once attached as an
agenda a character agenda loses all other card
types and follows all rules regarding agenda
cards.

Thanks - I'm probably not up to date with the FAQ

None-the-less, it would have been simpler if they had put some text on the card ~ or was the restriction a bit of an afterthough

It wasn't an after thought - they thought (and many of us agreed) that "as your only agenda" was sufficient. Since there's no discard mechanic for an agenda (and it's not in play), there would have had to be some sort of an entry in the FAQ to deal with what happens to the existing agenda since, technically, you'd have two (or more) on the board.

As the debates raged, they decided to make it explicit in the FAQ so that there was no more question.

I love these threads. They prove my point that "it's clear enough" is never actually clear enough. For some reason FFG tends to not be precise enough with their card text and instead fixes issues with the FAQs.
