Thanks to Josh for Organizing a tournament at TabsCon in a Royal Canadian Legion Hall on Saturday. I came in last place (whoo hoo!). Josh was beat out by his brother in the final round. It was a great time and a fun event.
I was going to run either Han Shoots first or Vader, Soontir, Turr, depending on how many people played rebels/imperials in order to try to balance out the factions. Most were playing rebels so I took out the Imperials for a spin.
My list
Vader 40 pts
Engine Upgrade
Daredevil
Cluster Missles
Soonter 33 pts
Stealth Device
Push the Limit
Turr 26 pts
Veteran Instincts
I lost both my games. The first squad I faced had double Y-Wings which negate my squads advantages and I made a critical error in crashing Vader early into a Y-wing using Daredevil. After that he was ioned to death while stressed.
The next game I lost to a kid in grade 2 running a pimped out Han and Horton. That was a fun game as I had to keep track of the 8 year olds special abilities as well as all my abilities, and help him play. The little guy's attention span was getting strained though. At times he'd go off and do a cartwheel or something but generally he stayed with the game. I was on very little sleep (there is a music festival in Toronto this weekend) and it was good that a new friend I made at the event by the name of Xavier was helping out as I played.
After the little kid smoked me, I played a pick up game with Xavier since I had a bye round. This was Xavier's first ever X-Wing game. I think he might join our Toronto X-wing community and if he does I predict he'll be a good player.
I then stayed for another pick up game with a new friend by the name of Rob, one of the guys from the tourney. I'm glad I brought my lunch!
It was a really fun time at TabsCon. I have to say the X-wing crowd are great. Here are some pictures of the event. I made the 2 LED tables and brought them for the guys to play on. Josh made the great looking asteroids.
In the T-Dot We play in high style!
