By Bahoola, in Strategy and deck-building

Hello!

Been a wile sense last time. Me and my mate have just beaten “Escape from Dol Guldur“ with basically just the core box and are about to start the Shadows of Myrkwood campaign and to be honest I feel a little over whelmed of all the new cards. So I would really appreciate any tips of decks that already been mentions with in the range of what do have to hand or any completely new decks. Another thing that will be welcomed, sense I know I just can’t ask very time I want a new deck, is a mental check list of some sort of questions on how you reason when you build a new deck.

This is what we have.

Me: Core + Shadows of Myrkwood

My Bud: Core + Heirs of Nùmenor, The Steward’s Fear.

Thank you in advance!

One of you should focus on questing and support, the other should focus on blocking and killing. Try that out.

here's how i approach deck building. in essence it is basically the same as nismojoe points out.

one of my decks is usually the fighting deck. i often have this a mono tactics deck, i.e. all heros are tactics heros. this allows you to have 1 very important card- thicket of spears. this card is amazing. it allows you, with some clever engagement techniques, to have one deck absorb most or all the attacks (or rather lack of attacks) during the entire fight phase.

still very useful is a similar card- feint. same thing, but just for 1 enemy.

so with those cards, my tactics deck is usually filled with plenty of allies, make sure there are plenty of cheap ones…you do have 3 tactics resources per turn but you will need those for thicket of spears at some points.

attatchments are easy- whatever works on your heros. blade of gondolin is great, especially on legolas. if you have dwarves then go for the axes.

so after that the other deck is rather more complex. i usually go for a lore/spirit deck. leadership is often my third supporting deck (i play solo but 2/3 handed)

i change whether i have 2 spirit or 2 lore heros, and 1 of the other sphere.

if you have alot of spirit cards then go for spirit, and lore if the other way round.

you certainly need test of will, hasty stroke and galadrims greeting in there.

i would say concentrate on card draw / treachery cancellation / healing / questing

out of those questing is most important. eowyn is great here, but there are plenty of other options.

you dont need to worry so much about defending with this deck, but thicket and feint won't always be available, so have either some decent blockers or some cheap allies you can sacrfice.

another option is forest snare which means you wont need to worry about continuing attacks (though you do need to have engaged the enemy)

what i like to do is use a galadrims greeting to lower the lore/spirit deck down by 6. let the tactics deck stay high. that way they engage most enemies. once the tactics deck gets too high, have another greetings ready to lower that by 6.

i dont think you have him yet, but strider + song of earendil both work great here.

one of the main problems with this set up of decks is resource acceleration. this is mainly in the leadership area. you can perhaps put in a leadership hero, though i would put them in the lore/spirit deck. another option, if you have it, is song of kings. have that in your deck with a few key leadership cards such as steward of gondor
