Gondor Deck

By Khamul The Easterling, in Strategy and deck-building

I am trying to make a Leadership Boromir, Leadership Aragorn, and Beregond deck. I've played it against a few quests and it struggled at threat reduction and card draw. What do you think I could do to make it better? Use Strider instead of Aragorn? What do you think? is this idea of heroes just not a good idea? My main goal is to make a Gondor deck. I know that they arent super powerfll right now but I still want to play with one. What Gondor decks have you guys played with? It doesnt have to be the one above.

My cardpool does NOT include:

The Hunt for Gollum

The Dead Marshes

Return to Mirkwood

The Long Dark

Shadow and Flame

Both Hobbit boxes

Otherwise I have everything else. so yea main point is, can you give me a few tips on Gondor decks?

btw I'm a solo player

Well I don't know if you read this, but here's an article that FFG put up sharing a deck with the same heroes you're using. Although, I think it would perform better when paired with another deck.

The deck I use is only 4 cards diff from this deck but as I said it really lacks threat reduction. I've now lost a few games to threat with this deck and if you lose more than 1 game cuz of threat with a deck that means you need to figure out threat reduction. It seems to NEED a gandalf to lower your threat and sometimes its hard to pay, find a gandalf so yeah. Any thoughts?

strider instead of aragorn is certainly the way to go here. his ability is so powerful. of course it wont help with avoiding high threat enemies, but if you are loosing a game through threat, perhaps 4 or so turns away from winning, then its going to let you win

how many turns were you from winning do you think?

I played FoS and lost to threat at just the begining of stage 4. I't kinda lacks questing but if you get STWB or CS on Aragorn you are going to need to quest with many people, leaving hardly anyone to attack after beregond defends. I'm very confused on what the stratagy is on this. I was only questing for about 4-5 maybe 6 (Aragorn with stone and sword that was broken for 5 and 1 ally) but it does take a little while to get both STWB and CS on Aragorn so I ended up spending 4 turns on stage 1 trying to get questing, find the attachments for aragron and defeating enemies (I had a follower and 2 swordsman and 1 time) then 2 turns on stage 2 and I got the Discard hand on stage 4 AND i lost CS so yeah I was haveing all kinds of trouble. It seems like its too slow too get the questing up which is hardly over 6-7 if you want to keep a guy or 2 back to defend/attack. And you might say "well get lots of allys into play with 1 willpower so you have like 2 will power for every ally" Well its kinda hard due to the lack of some recsorces from getting The attachments on aragorn and lack of card draw to get those allys. so yeah hopefully what I just said wasnt too confusing which I'm thinking it is going to be…… :P

i think leadership/tactics is a hard deck to pull off solo. two handed or more it can be devastating as a support deck.

if you switch in lore strider you get rid of the threat problem, however you have now watered down your deck to 3 spheres so this will increase your resource problem even more

you could put in envoy of pelargir and errand rider to even out the resources between the spheres. parting gifts would help also if you have it.

lore could give access to protector of lorien and also gleowine to get the sword out.

do you have stewards fear? put in good harvest to help with the tri-sphere problem

OK thanks. I do have both Stewards Fear and Druadan Forest.(Look at my first post at top) Looks like that combo of heroes is only good for 2 player…… What other Gondor deck have you had good results with?

yeah i seen the list but wasnt sure whether your country had new packs in- my store in UK hasnt got forest yet.

gondor decks….good question. i would say i have experiment alot with gondor themed decks.

i have decent success with gondor/rohan decks…but if we're sticking just with gondor (theme not trait i assume?) then the hero choices with your pool are

-elanor

-boromir leadership

-denethor

-hirluin

-aragorn lore

-aragorn leadership

-imrahil (i cant see your list in your original post whilst typing so i dont know if you have him)

-beregond

so….out of those i would, for a solo deck, go for perhaps

hirluin / aragorn lore / elanor

not particularly powerful beginning, but the key is the outlands. elanor is in there becuase of the need of treachery cancellation. i dont particularly like her but she is the only spirit gondor hero.

there is a lack of tactics here which i dont think is a problem because you have outlands allies.

certainly put in card draw mechanics from lore sphere, and also a good tale (again if you have it) to get out more allies. card draw shouldnt be a problem. have steward of gondor which you should get out quickly with the quick card drawing and resources are dealth with.

have unexpected courage on hirluin so he cant use his ever increasing stats twice per turn.

I've had a lot of luck with Aragorn (Lore), Beregond, and Boromir(Tactics)

You don't get all the Leadership gondor themed cards but the Aragorn/Boromir combo is really awesome. It's one of the few decks that has had some success against Into Ithilien.

Also, I like Imrahil/Eleanor/Boromir(Lead)

This is fun because you can try to get Blood of Numenor to work (I usually go for Eleanor). I acutally got my best score on Into Ithilien with this deck (89!)
