After you refresh and the FAQ

By Nick Demus, in Star Wars: The Card Game - Rules Questions

Greetings.

Was it really intended that there are now two different "After you refresh" timeslots?

The FAQ says that standard "After you refresh" effects take place after step 3, which would be right before the action window.

The FAQ also says that those two cards "AYR" cards which didn´t make sense before the FAQ changed the general rule are now resolving their effects after the end of the refresh phase, so right after the action window. Why were those two cards changed at all if the general rule was already changed and thus made those cards perfectly work already?

The way I see it, someone saw the problem with the shield effect of those cards and made an errata for the cards.

Then someone else changed the rule in general for other reasons.

My theory is, whoever proofread the FAQ probably thought it´s the same timeslot anyway, because he/she forgot about the action window.

And now we have two different timeslots for "AYR"-effects, one after the AW for those two cards only, and before the AW for all other cards.

Was that really intentional or will it be changed again with the next FAQ?

It's been raised with the design team already, for all the points you make, but a ruling to un-errata them (or not) hasn't been made yet.

Yes

The document’s first section, “Card Errata,” addresses a situation in which the timing of “after you refresh” effects was preventing the newly placed shields created by a couple of card effects from persisting beyond the phase in which they were placed. Observant players will notice that we have addressed this issue on two levels. The first issue we noted was that the timing trigger of “after you refresh” had been defined too early in the rulebook (at the end of step one of the refresh phase), and we have therefore moved this trigger to a more natural place, after all three of the “refresh” steps have been completed. Additionally, we have also released errata on two cards, Fleeing the Empire (Core Set, 56) and Fleet Command Center (Core Set, 57), so that their effects now initiate at the end of the refresh phase. This was done to further remove these specific cards from the problematic “after you refresh” trigger.

The problem with their explanation is that the "after you refresh" trigger was no longer problematic…

The way I explained it is that the reaction text of "after you refresh" happens after part 3 of the refresh step - basically taking place in the action window.

So they wanted those two cards to be treated differently. Interesting, but okay then.

Thank you all for commenting.
