The calgary regionals were run as part of Underground con. The choice of date may have kept attendance down a bit, the con clashed with free RPG day at the big local gaming store. We had 7 in the tournement, one of whom dropped after round one.
I took a tie swarm, 4 academies and 4 obsidians. There were no YT-1300's, 2 lists with a firespray and assorted ties, a couple of x-wing/y-wing lists and a couple i didnt play.
My first game was against the eventual winner, Jeremy (?) who played an x/y wing list, sorry i didnt write down the details. My lack of experience showed throughout the day as i kept flying into asteroids, my self and my opponent. I think at any one time half of my 8 ships were not in position to fire. However, I was really lucky with the dice, my opponent had incredibly bad luck which caused him to fail his personal moral role. At the end, I had out pointed him by 34, enough for a full match win.
I dont remember much of my second game, It was another rebel list, I lost by 25 pts but he was pretty beat up.
Game 3 was against Krassus, Howlrunner and 3 academies, I lost 5 ships to his Howl and 1 or 2 academies, again another modified match win for my opponent.
Game 4, i faced Boba and 2 advanced ties ( both storm squad i think), finally i flew a semi decent game. Managed to keep Boba out of it for the first couple of rounds and took out a Storm, Kept focusing on the other storm even when Boba joined us. Got good dice against Mr. Fett once the second swarm died and finished off his entire list as time ticked down, only lost 2 ships myself. I amazed myself by not flying into anything i didnt want to fly into for the last 2 rounds of this game, I think the only rounds i didnt ram something i didnt mean to.
So, i finished 2-2, but had the only victory against the eventual winner. Learned an awful lot from this tournement, mainly that i need to practise and be able to keep more ships in battle. Games 2 and 3 especially, i probably had only 2 or 3 ships in position to fire each turn, 2 or even just 1 more ship in position could have resulted in victory rather than defeat. 8 ships is alot to handle, but the list also has lots of hit points and a fair bit of damage. Once i got into it, it was quite a bit of fun. game 3 was confusing with 11 Ties on the board, until i started dieing.
All in all, a fun day, and i am looking forward to the next one.
