Spaced out?

By Fnoffen, in Twilight Imperium 3rd Edition

Does anyone think there might be a new expansion in the works? It has been some time since Shards and FFG are currently reprinting the Shattered Empire expansion right after reprinting the base game. I know that the Civilization base game got reprinted not long before they announced the latest expansion (Wisdom and Warfare I believe) for that game.

What, apart from the obvious (such as new races), would you like to see in a new TI3-Expansion?

Or has the TI3 universe been tapped out in regards to cramming new stuff in?

I do not own the 2 expansions yet (but I intend to soon) so maybe these hopes of mine are already covered, but justt the top of my head I would like to see the Lazax as a playable race and not just as a special scenario in Shards.

I would also like to see some kind of mechanic for forming alliances that have real in-game perks for joining and consequences in leaving/betraying.

what i would like is an option for 2 players.but with all the trading war and politics we have now.

and what i think would be cool is if u start with only your Race Home system and then 1 by 1 explore the galaxy in search for some secret race or artifacts/ techs

so when u want to go outside your system u draw a new haxatile and see what happens

or maybe put your home system on the board and then create the galaxy with ohter hexatiles but u put them upside down so u already got the shape of the galaxy but u are uncleare what to encounter maybe call it the Fog of War.

u could be surrounded with Red cornered system so then u first have to learn the tech to travel true them

and u can get an encounter with one of the other existing race's in the game find new systems to explore and enemy's /friends

this would even be playable with 1 player

but i stil would like to have some deep politics in the game and trading options

The Lazax are already a playable race in the regular TI3 continuum. They call themselves L1Z1X these days.

As for whether or not another expansion is coming, I'm inclined to guess there's not, but I reserve the right to be proven wrong. =P Unlike some other game lines, Twilight Imperium doesn't seem to be endlessly expanding every year, although the recent addition of Shards does show that the game is not completely shut down, either.

If they do make another expansion, I wouldn't expect it for another few years, at least.

Not sure I would like the fog of war map. It tests the bounds of suspension of disbelief too much. Really it does not take an advanced space faring race to see a supernova yet I accidentally fly my carrier into one? At the very least fast, inexpensive probes would be sent to scout the sectors well in advance of any commitment to send expensive ships. And the knowledge of what the galaxy looks like would be hard to lose even after such a long time in the dark ages post fallen empire, although what is exactly on the planets of the system next door may be up to speculation hence Distant Suns counters.

From a game stand point it would slow the game down. I also like to plan my moves well in advance, which can only be done with a minimum of random factors. Distant Suns counters and fog of war leave too much to chance.

Really, all it would take is a fairly primitive observatory to tell you what is in a star system.

Seen the recent one-hour video interview in which he let know that FFG is working on something that he is very excited about. Well, it could be about anything really, but with it being their original hallmark game one could dare hope... Even though I'm not sure the game needs an update.
