scale comparison oddity

By Macabre, in X-Wing

time for people to do some fact checking for me, because something isn't quite right. i have been measuring all of my toys for scale comparison (yup, can you tell i'm unemployed?). anyway, the good ol fashioned tie fighter does not seem to make sense. the star wars website lists its' length at 6.4 meters. using the math, that makes the current ff scale for the tie fighter 1:200 scale and the old wotc model at 1:288 scale. the wotc mini is closer in scale? this means that either the minis are all out of scale or the initial sw.com measurement is out of scale. help a geek out here, people

FFG details their methods in the back of the ore set instructions……pretty interesting.

They said that they went to great lenghts to make the scale on the models for this game as accurate a possible. Including contacting ILM about the orginal models and looking at the proportions of the TieFighter window.

So of any model out there, short of the offical ILM ones, these are the most accurate scale you'll likely find.

LOL…..how many freakin' times are these lonely people living in their mom's basement gonna post about "These ships not being to scale" either from info from wiki pages or from long division they did on their Blues Clues notepad.

FFG….contacted Lucasfilms….which gave THEIR official measurements to FFG….who in turn made these models all 1/270 scale to those measurements. I cannot understand how much clearer that can get.

That's not quite fair. You can be nuts about Star Wars and not live in your mom's basement or be lonely. It's possible (even likely) that they just weren't following the game when FFG announced that everyone else has had it wrong all these years.

Perhaps, but the back of the manual does give all the details about what they did to get the scale right. So it's not like they had to be following the game from when it was announced to know at least in part the lenghts that FFG went to make the scale right.
