Help understanding value of Disorient Talent

By theomc, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

My group can't figure out the value of the Disorient Talent. For two advantage it lets you put a setback die on your target for one turn (per rank, but I'll get back to that). But that's basically what anyone can do with the basic list of things you can spend advantage on in combat (give target a setback for their next action). Sure the Talent lasts a round instead, but how often does someon take more than one action in a round? Almost never so far in our group (mostly people duck for cover, a manuever, and attack, which takes the setback).

Now Disorient being ranked helps, but the ability only appears twice in two different talent trees of two different careers, so unless your REALLY going for a build that uses Disorient a lot, it's pretty much just wasted XP (as far as my group can tell).

Can anyone enlighten me? Thanks.

Well it does affect all skill checks including Athletics and such for the round, unlike the next skill check, as per Spending Advantages. Also given enough advantages you would be able to activate the talent as well as spend advantage giving two setback dice to an opponent.

Right, I think the prevailing interpretation (and may have been confirmed by a mod or help request posted in the forums) is that each line in the combat options may only be activated once/roll, regardless of how many adv resulted from the roll.

Therefore, the value of the Disorient talent lies in the fact that it allows multiple activations of the same effect on a single roll, albeit through different pathways.
