Well, lets start seeing ideas for cursed items.

Voodoo-Doll-Front-Side.jpg

I think the Doll should effect the investigator having the doll (after all I think of it as a doll of themselves)...

perhaps something like, "whenever they defeat a monster roll a die one a 1 the monster deal its stamina damage to the investigator"...

or what you have but the owner of the doll losses the Stamina!

The original intent of Effigies is to take out your frustrations on something that wouldn't hurt you back, as well as a method to instill bad luck or inflict pain, in the case of magic, without threat of retaliation.

My idea was along the lines of, you vent your anger, stress, and frustration on the doll, allowing your mind to clear and focus, but hurts someone as payment.

I don't know, I really like the Voodoo Doll the way it is. The person using it shouldn't be harmed; it's a voodoo doll! And the ability is very cool, it basically allows Clues to be traded (in one direction) for a price. Although if we change the price for all Cursed Items to $0, Voodoo Doll might need a worse negative. It's optional to use, and well worth it (everyone lose a stamina to give 1 Clue to the same guy? Heck yes!). Awesome idea though.

I think the Cursed Box items are a bit too harsh. Cursed Items should have an upside, but a downside that makes it *almost* not worth it. Those have only a downside.

I like these methods of discarding Cursed Items:

4. When becoming Blessed, also Discard 1 Cursed Item.

6. Draw a Corruption/Madness/Injury Card and Discard 1 Cursed Item.

Then we could make the rule "Cursed Items: You must purchase Cursed Items if given the option. Cursed Items cannot be discarded except as follows..." and list the rules like above. I'm not sure if they should be allowed to be traded though. Seems against the spirit of a cursed item...

What about the Voodoo Doll idea? You you can grab a Clue from another Investigator, at the expense of their Stamina.

Ideas for getting rid of cursed items:

1. Discard another Item of the same catagory: Example: Discard a Unique Item to get rid of a Unique Cursed Item
2. Spend Clues to Discard a Cursed Item
3. Close a Gate but Don't Seal the Gate and Discard 1 Cursed Item
4. When becoming Blessed, also Discard 1 Cursed Item
5. When Lost in Time and Space, Discard 1 Cursed Item
6. Draw a Corruption/Madness/Injury Card and Discard 1 Cursed Item

Heee heee heee.... I'd love to see someone with the Voodoo Doll get Join The Winning Team. (Considering that this is a game winning combination— or at least game losing for everyone else unless there's a large team, there needs to be a way for the rest of the team to break the doll— perhaps it breaks if the investigator holding it is blessed— you can be blessed by the other investigators at South Church).

That's why Blessings automatically forcing you to discard all Cursed Items is a cool idea. Other people can Bless you in order to help you out (or to stop you, in your example!). So awesome! XD

I think cursed items opens a whole new area of fun and games. However, the ones I've seen so far are too cursed. Exhausting all spells or skills just ruins some investigators. And there's no way to get rid of those cursed items. I could see eternally exhausting one spell, skill, item (even the most expensive) but all? What would the gangster be like if he could never reload his tommy gun? cool.gif Or Rita could never use her life long martial arts skill?

Zero cost is a great idea. I think that the investigator must take the cursed item and must buy another item. After all, he did go shopping.

Also in the case of drawing the item in the course of an encounter, they investigator might be able to draw a second item. (It's as if the curse is associated with the drawn item.) In fact, they could be forever associated and getting rid of the good item also gets rid of the curse.

Taking a corruption card is a good idea too, except not everyone has Black Goat.

Giving something a little good might also be nice, for example "Automatically restores 1 sanity per turn, but if so removes a stamina."

Also I think there needs to be some way to rid oneself of the cursed item. A blessing would be the obvious way, but I'm sure more clever ways can be devised (like by killing a monster of a certain symbol or returning a gate of a certain symbol.)

I want to respond to this post, but I'm going to respond to some of it's points in the Cursed Items thread.

moved to the Cursed Item thread

There Kroen, now we won't be cluttering "your" thread with things that add more flavor then goodness.

Pretty good. But the cost for the benefit is way too cheap. Also...

Too powerful in potential combination. If it were just to remove a resistance, maybe.

Well I did it mainly because there isn't a mission that requires the sacrifice of money. I thought about not removing doom token, but then what against ancient ones with no defence? Perhaps "If the Ancient One awakens, its defence is ignored. If it has no defence, 2 doom tokens are remove from it instead."

Whoops, I actually misread your card (why I should probably put my glasses on). Mmm... Against ancient ones with no defence... They're usually so easy they shouldn't be hurt anymore ;'D Also, you should probably make it so that it can only remove one of their resistences or immunities. Don't make guys like Atlach too easy. You also might want to bump up the cash price by one or two. Being able to break an immunity is worth alot in my opinion (particularly physical— because physical weapons are cheaper and more plentiful).

Finding Its Weakness

I would bring the cost up to 6 dollars.... considering 3 of the spots are all in the same hood and the other really close, so the traveling part is not hard to get around, so yes 24 dollars is worth removing some AO's immunities and TWO DOOM TOKENS, Yog that's you!...plus you can get blessed and 2 clues in the process.

The sacrifice cost, or the mission cost?

Too pricey, five at the most, I'd say four though. A total of $18 is alot of cash to pay. On the other hand... Taking away immunities in a small player game could be pretty devastating, so maybe five.

IDK this is a game winner if you trying to defeat the AO...removing immunities and 2 doom tokens will help you allot more than weapons or other things you could buy...plus Bank Loan give you $10, few stops at River Docks and some trading should give you the money. Make sure you get the Loan towards the end of the Mission.

I suppose. You might be right.

Alright here's the new version of the herald mission. It's cheaper to buy and the sacrifice should be more appropriate.

This card is the exact definition of unfun and no one would ever try to colmplete this mission. Why? because people like to play with herlads. If they didn't, they wouldn't have to, as it's an optional variant.

Eh, the unique item deck is pretty large these days, and the cost to use this item is fairly high. Perhaps it should add in a second doom token.

It's so ironic that you're mad that I insulted your custom stuff even though I didn't, AND THEN you're the only person who is needlessly rude in commenting on people's stuff. It's hard to believe this is serious! lol

I think I'm just going to have to ignore you from now on. You are quite skilled at TRYING to make people mad.

Well sorry, mr. sensitivity. It's a valid criticism. Not everyone are gonna like your stuff. And even if everyone does and only one person doesn't (me) it's still okay. You can't expect to be perfect. Get over it. Now your card does the exact opposite of what the "herald variant" is suppoused to be. It takes the game out of the game. It's like I'll make a mission "remove a small board of your choice from the game". You see where I'm going with this?

Edit: Nevermind. Everyone agrees that you're ridiculous except for you. I'm done trying to explain it, you obviously can't understand.
