Free RPG Day - Austin TX - Dragon's Lair

By selderane, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Just throwing this on the board to let interested parties know that there will be at least two GMs running the Shadows of a Black Sun adventure this Saturday at Dragon's Lair Austin. I am one of those GMs.

Session will run 10-2 and 3-7.

You can find location information here: http://dlair.net/austin/

I'm in San Antonio, and was considering the same… running the game here, at DL. Are you getting an advanced copy or just going to shoot through it at the last minute?

D-Lair gave out the Free RPG Day modules to everyone who is running a game yesterday. So we have a week to familiarize ourselves with it.

So I'm looking at Shadows of a Black Sun right now. complice

And I (the other GM in question) am also reviewing it right now :-)

Just a heads-up, I think there's a typo in the online character sheet for Grabow the Wookiee… under Weapons & Equipment, his 'fists' dice pool doesn't match what's listed above for his Brawl skill. Is that a mistake, or am I out to lunch?

Anyway, happy to see three shops in Toronto will be running this, though I won't be there, myself.

Just updating this post with how things went.

I was hoping more people would show up, but we got what we got. The first session had three people show up for one of the games and they went to Tim, the other GM there with me. Seeing me alone with one player (a friend who came with me) he graciously invited us to join the game.

It was great fun seeing players decide what to do with dice results, even the tricky ones (All my successes were canceled out, but I do have a Triumph remaining… well what does that mean?).

The second session I ran, again only enough players for one game showed, and Tim sat back and watched. Things went well and everyone there seemed to have fun. What was really nice is that every person in each session agreed that once they spent a moment with the dice reading the results made sense right away. They all also agreed that this iteration of the game was the most cinematic. Hopefully that means some will be picking it up next month!

I want to thank Dragon's Lair for giving each GM a gift card for their work. It was a pleasant surprise and no one signed up expecting it.

I purchased Shadows of Esteren with the gift card and I'm very pleased with it. I'm even going to run some session of it for the creators at GenCon! If you're looking for a gritty, low-fantasy setting, with a dash of gothic horror, I recommend it checking it out. RPG.net has glowing reviews up for the main book and the prologue module.
