Hitting asteroids?

By Bjorn Rockfist, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Am I correct in the following?

You hit an asteroid if your movement template is basically over any part of an asteroid template during a ships movement.

and/or

If your ship's base ends over any part of an asteroid template at the end of the ships movement.

sounds right to me. A lot of people think if your base "passes over" an asteroid that is very close to your movement template that counts, but it actually doesn't by the rules.

Same to me.. Lot of player here in Italy consider the "projection" of the base during the movement to see if you hit or not an asteroid, but reading carefully the rules it seems clear to me that only the movement template concern during the movement, while the base size is used at the end of the movement…comiendo

The important thing to understand about movement in X-wing is that you don't fly the path - you pick the ship up, and put it down at the end. As far as the game is concerned it's more a series of teleports :)

This might help too:

thats not exactly true. in the rules it says if the movement tray overlaps the astroid you roll a attack die and suffer the damage if there is any.

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by "movement tray", but if you are talking about the maneuver template then you are correct - if any part of the template overlaps the obstacle token, you must roll for damage (and skip your "perform action" step). But Buhallin has the right of it - the ship base is not considered at any point along the template, only the final position at the end of the movement.

tray = template

tray = template

Good to go then!
