Radagast and the Eagles

By legolas18, in Strategy and deck-building

This is only an idea for a deck, and a vague one at that. I recently had an idea to make a Tactics/Lore deck, with Tactics being the more prominent, that involved the eagles and Radagast as the main theme. The reason for splashing in Lore would be to include Word of Command, a card that I have always wanted to use but have never put it in any of my decks. Since I currently am running some other decks, I just was wondering how others would try to accomplish this deck in the best possible way. I know that Word of Command is for fetching the really valuble cards that you need, but I don't know which key cards I would want to include. Also, this doesn't have to necessarily be a solo deck. If you have an amazing idea for it to be paired with another deck, please share!

what is your card pool and are you playing solo or with others?

I think it is a great idea for a deck. The key, I think, is to have a lot of cards that are good for specific situations or powerful cards that you only want one copy of, like Path of Need, Steward of Gondor or the black arrow. The ring for Elrond comes to mind. Your green hero could be Elrond and you could use word of command to fetch his ring. Other cards could be Landroval or Beorn. Beorn is shuffled back into the deck when you add the +5, so you could use multiple words to fetch him back. If you have Inglorian in play you can put Beorn on top of your deck and then use the ring to put him into play at no cost. Sounds kinda crazy, but you could probably get it to work. Another option is going dwarves instead of eagles. Then you can use word to fetch Legacy of Durin. Then you use the resources off Radagast to cast Gandalf and a few eagles like Landroval. Anyway, cool idea.

I've got all of the sets, though only one Core set, and I usually play solo, but two-handed. Thanks for the ideas Duke!

well an idea you could have is to have mono tactics for 1 deck and mono lore for the other

this become ever more viable with the new packs

the obvious use for tactics is hitting power and defending. the eagles serve great for that.

my best deck is hama/beorn/legolas

hama recyles feint/thicket of spears , beorn defends lower hitters, and legolas hits across the table for the lore deck

have a gondolin and rivendell blade, yew bow and black arrow.

also have suport of the eagles.

the other deck will need some decent questers, so it could be strider (lore aragorn) / mirlonde (when she comes out) and perhaps bilbo to get that word of command out.

have the map maker to use the 3 lore resources per turn to increase questing power. i think the erebor record keeper also

mirkwood runner can support in attacking and there are plenty of healing cards to choose from. perhaps try healing herbs on bilbo

also have burning brand in there

the only weakness here is treachery cancellation, which still remains in the realm of spirit.

however you have risk some light which can help you avoid bad cards, also in from the wild.

Well there's only one problem there… Can Word of Command be used to exhaust an Istari character that is not under your control? I didn't think that it could be used across the table, and that's why I thought that I would have to make a deck that combines both Lore and Tactics. cangrejo

cant it? im not sure. it doesnt say 'exahust an istari you control…'

…so can you exhaust an istari from another deck to search your own deck?

..or can another player exhaust an istari using the card from the other player, and search their deck?

Hmm… I'm not sure. I'll post a thread about it.

Well thanks to some help from GrandSpleen, it has been clarified that Word of Command cannot be used across the table. It would have been very nice if it could have!

thanks for that clarification.
