Does fire control system seemed underpriced to anyone else?

By Vonpenguin, in X-Wing

Just saw the spoiler for it and… wow. For the same price as R5-K6 you get almost the same effect, only better in every single way. It's not keeping an old lock, it's getting a whole new one. And it happens 100% of the time, no rolling, no "only on a hit/miss". just free target locks against the guy you just shot at whenever you want them.

B-wings and Lambda's better move like drunk, quadrapalegic buffalo.

This is what I think is going to happen. Small and fast ships will be ruling the field since having anything big and slow will go down fairly quickly to a withering hail of fire from a decked out B-Wing or a pair of X-Wings. The A-Wing may be revitalized since it will have the dial and agility to evade some of the more ponderous ships out there.

I can also see an eratta for all existing cards so they too can take the sensor icon on their ships in addition to a ship modification. This would seem likely to me. That will make Tycho with PTL, sensor jammers, and a sealth device uber powerful, but this is all just mental stimulation.

I think it's more likely that they realized R5-K6 was basically useless for his cost, and should have just automatically reacquired the lock so that's what the FCS does.

I suppose there may be some argument about the utility of that auto-acquire with Dutch, and his ability to guarantee 4 locks a turn (two for him on the same target, 2 for allies) and that's why the autolock is in the Advanced Sensors rather than the astromech. It wouldn't be the first time upgrades seemed to be over/undercosted based on specific possible combinations.

Oh, how I wish FFG would be willing to errata squad point costs / icon availability on some choice cards. Y-Wing-related cards, mostly. I am the Y-Wing Avenger.

I find myself using Y-Wings more often than not just because I tend to roll BLANK BLAK BLANK EYE with a range three shot with focus when defending with my A-Wings. I like having 8 HP's before going kablewie.

Wave 3 was supposed to introduce supprt ships. The fact that you will probalby have to put a Fire control system on a ship that isn't that good by itself is what makes it worse than a droid that can be put on a already combat capable X-wing. But we will have to see when it comes out.

Only problem with that argument is that B-wings and Shuttles, the only two ships that will have system upgrade slots as of wave three, are both attack 3 ships. They may not have the maneuverability of an X-wing but once they line up a shot they are just as deadly. I understand that nothing in this game exists in a vaccum but I just think that even accounting for the X-wing being a better dogfighter and possible Dutch abuse it should still be either still a roll, or you should need to spend a lock and automatically require. Either one would be an improvement over R5 while keeping one of the downsides. But to take away every restriction and downside and keep it the same price strikes me as odd. Even if they kept the effect as is and raised the cast at three points it would still be well worth it.

I’ll reserve final judgment for when I see the maneuver dials but right now I have mild concerns.

I would imagine they've playtested the hell 'outta wave 3. Maybe we'll get get posts about how terrible 7 red maneuvers sucks. Besides they both have 1 agility right? Doesn't that stink as is? I hate going "oh yeah, I have a 40ish% percent chance to cancel 1 of your 2 damage….. blech"

I trust we'll get good options to expand. I personally would love to see new loadouts and more options, and that's all that counts. No stressing. (well maybe with the b and lambda- heh)
