The new "Sensor Jammer" and focus.

With Wave 4 comes a card called "Sensor Jammer" as seen here:

"When defending, you may change one of the attacker's hit results to a focus result. The attacker cannot reroll the die with the changed result."

Now, how does this happen and in what order?

For example, the attacker rolls attack dice and comes up with hit, focus, and blank. Does the defender have to declare first that the hit will become a focus? If so, and the attacker has a focus action, the attacker may just change it back to an attack. Or does the attacker have to declare first if he is using his focus and then the defender changes the result back to just a focus?

In the order of attack, defender modifies attack dice first, then attacker modifies or re-rolls. (Page 11 of the core rulebook).

So Sensor jammer would take place before Focus. But you do force them to spend the focus to regain that hit result, so that's still a good thing.

Page 11. Got it. Thanks!

Yeah, that is a commonly missed rule as nothing inthe ooriginal wave could invoke it.

Yeah. If the attacker spent the focus first and then the defender changed it then they might as well have just said to change it to a blank. This way you get a miss if the attacker didn't focus, or force him to choose between spending the focus on aan attack or saving it for defense. It's pretty clever really. And thematic, if your sensors are jammed you have to "eyeball it" and "focus" to hit something.

The down side to this is marksmanship. Changing one eye to a crit the rest to hits.

Making this skill moot against a marksmanship build. Ie echo + acd + marksman + adv sensor.

I love my 3 ship builds they are fun. Unfortunately not really a competitive build for empire.

Cheers, thank you for the rule clarification.

Actually the downside can be as simple as just having a focus token, because that'll still nullify Sensor Jammer. Half the intent of this card is to force the use of focus tokens by the attacker.

Almost Halloween, bringing out all the necromancers... :)

Thought it was old when I saw it was dated June. Now I've just noticed it was June, last year!

Yeah, but this one is only 16 months old. That is a lot better than the thread from 3 YEARS ago before the game even came out.

What's really interesting is when you get a thread that is just over year old resurrected. The date may look fine so long as you happen to miss the year.

Which is exactly what I did.
