It has been about 15 years since planning the old desktop TIE computer game…what were all the ships from the game…and what were all the weapon systems?! vielen danke!!
Old TIE game
I remember tie fighter, interceptor, advanced, defender, and missile boat… I think… that was a great game.
Here you go: http://www.freegameempire.com/games/TIE-Fighter
You're welcome.
You can also see everything in the Wookiepedia .
The game introduced the TIE Avenger, TIE Defender, Assault Gunboats, T-Wings, R-41s, a whole class of containers, and so much more to the Star Wars Lore in terms of spacecraft and starships, even if few of the additions made it into other parts of the expanded universe. Moreover the game was novel by presenting the Empire as something other than only an Evil Organization. I kind of wish there were other missions where the Empire was ironically a force of good against guys even worse than they were!
Without a joystick I can't enjoy much of the other games. TIE Fighter was the last flight sim, I think, "playable" with a mouse and keyboard. I just got my mitts on X-Wing alliance but can't play it because Joysticks are virtually extinct in the area I live in.
I remember this game so well. I miss it. I'm really hoping the Tie Defender eventually makes it to the X-Wing! Missile Boats would be cool too.

X-Wing Alliance is unbelievably great. In my humble opinion, it's the king of the X-Wing/TIE Fighter video games.
Maybe you should eBay yourself a joystick.
There are plenty of companies that make USB joysticks for $20-$30. I still play X-Wing, TIE Fighter and Alliance, so my advice is to stop reading this and go get your self a stick and a copy of the game.
If you have problems making the older games work on dual-core systems with 64-bit OS, there are all sorts of sites that will help you get the game running. Definitely worth the time!
YES! Excellent old but GOOD game!
-Heer RevanDarkon: Yes, enjoyed all the ships, but (obviously) enjoyed that TIE-Defender with the dual Ion Cannon und quad-spray of green lazers. Did i also have the launch tubes of plasma bomb or missiles? Or maybe it was the tracker beams?! Awesome!!
-Heer Aadh: WOW, you have made the day! Will need to open up und download! Awesome!!!
-Heer Norsehound: This is "impressive" and great source. Vielen Danke!!!!
-RedComet: I agree, Hammar awesome ship for the TIE-Defender. Thanks
The TIE Defender had all of that. There's a reason many people hate how overpowered the TIE Defender is, in spite of being perfectly resonable coming from an Empire that manufactures Star Destroyers by the thousands.
Sienar's TIE Defender was armed with twin Ion Cannons, four Laser cannons, twin warhead launchers, and a hardpoint for beam weapons (Which included Tractor beams and jamming beams). They were expensive but feared by all who flew against them. When some were stolen and reverse-engineered by pirates, the Empire treated it as a grave concern and developed the superior Missile Boat to counter it.
In fact I expect the TIE Defender to be one of the most expensive starfighters in the game, if not a counterpart to the B-Wing which it shares many similarities (Cannon hardpoint, and the Advanced Systems hardpoint filling in for the Tractor Beam/Jammer beam). The TIE Defender would obviously be much faster but it might have to sacrifice some of that agility for blinding speed (so no barrel roll then?) I expect a 3/3/3/3 starfighter.
I loved the warheads, and with Wave 3 it looks like we'll have most of them: Proton Torpedoes, Advanced Proton Torpedoes, Concussion Missiles, Advanced Concussion Missiles, Heavy Rockets, Space Bombs.
Space Bombs are probably equivalent to Proton Bombs. We have yet to see any rockets.
The other things I liked were the countermeasures in X-wing vs. TIE fighter. But warheads in the X-wing Miniatures Game are fickle enough as it is that I don't expect to see any abilities or upgrades to make them less useful.
I wanted to see a Missile Boat in this game, especially because of the SLAM system, allowing it to dump primary weapon energy into the engines for a CRAZY speed boost. But the TIE bomber in X-wing Miniatures Game already can hold up to 4 warheads, so it doesn't look like the Missile Boat is going to happen.
Oh well. Maybe we'll at least get the Alpha -class Xg-1 Starwing (aka Assault Gunboat), which handles somewhere between an X-wing and a Y-wing. Lasers, missiles, ion cannons and shields. Basically a Rebel craft for the Imperial navy.
If I were to put money down I'd put it on the TIE Defender over the Assault Gunboat. I don't like saying that because I think the Assault Gunboat really needs more attention, but when I think about it, the Defender is the more likely choice.
The problem is trying to find how distinguishable the two ships are from one another in X-Wing terminology. Based on their capabilities, both fighters are canon-carriers (Ion cannons), warhead carriers (missiles likely), beam mounts (probably represented by the advanced sensors upgrade), and shielded. The differences between them would be in movement dials, main attack (Def 3, Gunboat 2), named pilots, and taking Barrel roll away from the Assault Gunboat.
Each of the expansions so far have brought distinguishing gameplay to the meta, so releasing one before the other here won't be as significant as even the TIE Fighter v the TIE Interceptor. I can think of a few ways to seperate the two, like giving Defenders Torpedoes and keeping the sensors upgrade off the Gunboat (and making it cheaper), but indivudality between the ships is going to be important.
Ideally somehow FFG will provide us with both kinds of fighters. In the very least I hope the assault gunboat is chosen over the Skipray Blast Boat. I don't like that fighter as much, and the Blastboat seems to have a better reputation with smugglers and outlaws. Contrast this to the Gunboat, which while (sadly) rare in the EU, it has been exclusively in Imperial (or renegade Imperial) service. The Gunboat is also prettier, but that's just bias…
Rockets would be nice.
Multi-Rockets
Points: 3
Firepower: 4
Attack (focus): If the attacker is hit, suffer one damage for each damage result and cancle ALL dice results.
Uh, what?
When I saw Advanced Proton Torpedoes I wondered where they came from, since they didn't behave like the Adv Proton Torpedoes I remembered from TIE Fighter (as normal Protons but with higher velocity and hitting power). The B-Wing's advanced protons, I dunno, behave more like the Proton Rockets for their high hitting but zero homing?
I really wish FFG could pay more heed to the stuff from the flight simulators. TIE Fighter introduced so much incredible stuff to the Star Wars universe that hardly shows up elsewhere in the EU, especially from the perspective of starfighter combat and dogfighting.
