Holy Lance and multiple enemies

By whopacha, in Talisman Rules Questions

Ok, so i've only played about 3 games of talisman so far, so I'm pretty much a noob, but i cant find information on this anywhere.

If i have to fight multiple enemies who's strengths add together and one is a dragon and one is not a dragon:

If i have the holy lance:

"Add 1 to your Strength during battle.
Add 3 to your Strength during battle against Dragons."

Do i add 3 to my strength because one of the enemies is a dragon? Or can i only add 1 to my strength because one of the enemies is not a dragon?

This was a matter of life and death in a game last night and im not sure what the correct answer is.

We allowed the +3 and i won the battle. Can i get clarification on this? Is it written in the rulebook somewhere I've missed? or an FAQ?

I was fighting a dragon and a wild boar:

Title : Dragon

Card Type : Enemy

Sub Type : Dragon

Strength : 7

A fearsome Dragon is terrorising this area. It will remain here until it is killed.

Encounter Number : 2

Title : Wild Boar

Card Type : Enemy

Sub Type : Animal

Strength : 1

There is a Wild Boar roaming this area. It will remain here until it is killed.

Encounter Number : 2

You were correct to add +3 during the battle!

Ell.
