Regional Report - Greer, SC

By sinclair5150, in X-Wing Battle Reports

After winning my first Regional at my home FLGS in April with a Han Shoots First variant I was determined to fly fighters in my second Regional. So this past weekend, my cousin and I ventured to Big Robot Games in Greer, SC for their hosted Regional. We had a total of 6 participants which was a little disappointing given that we drove 2 1/2 hrs. but the day was still filled with great games.

My thematic squad:

Tycho's Spear

Tycho w/ Stealth Device, Assault Missiles, Push the Limit
Rookie Piolot X-Wings x 3

100 pts.

Suprisingly, and thankfully, there were no Falcon lists to be had that day.

Game 1

I faced a super nice guy who recognized me from the forums, jolley1. He was flying a double firespray list, with Krasis and a BH, both with HLC, Gunner, and Seismic Charges. My list is built around Tycho softening up the opposing squad with his missiles so that was out of the window against him. He spilit his two ships up and I choose to go after the BH first, engaging with Tycho and stipping a shield or two with the missile. Possible first game jitters as I completely forgot that he had charges on both ships and was caught with one from the BH. That allowed him to really put a hurt on me early however I did take out Krassis after a few round. After that we both went in to regroup mode, playing cat and mouse around the entire board with some pretty good flying by both of us. The match came down to his BH with 1 hp left against one of my rookies with 1 hp and he got me first. Even though I lost by 1 hp this was possible the most fun and intense game of X-Wing that I have played thus far.

Game 2

Faced off against a hodge podge TIE list with Howl, Night Beast, Dark Curse, an Avenger ( I think) and a Tempest TIE Advanced with missile. This is what my list was looking for. The X-Wings played bait while Tycho screamed up the side on an extreme flank as he kept his squad together in tight formation. Tycho then cut across the board and lauched the assualt missile against Night Beast. The missile one shot the TIE and did a total of 4 splash damage on his other ships. From there I was able to finish him off rather quickly with some pretty good rolls, only losing an X-Wing in the process.

Game 3

Lined up against a Garvin, Dutch, Rookie, Green Squadron w/ assault missile squad. I think I through him for a loop right off the bat by setting up my 3 x-wings facing on my extreme left facing horizontally back to the right. He set up 3 of his ships lined up straight at me and then put his rookie on the other side (the side I was facing). Not sure why, but again, given his reaction to my setup (Hmmmm) I think he was a tad uncertain what to do. I then put Tycho down out in front of the x's, again, facing right. I proceded to zoom my ships across the board and then turn up to wipe out his lone rookie as his other 3 ships were caught on the other side of the asteroid field. Eventually we meet in the the middle asteroid cluster and I hit again with Tycho's missile. Some more good rolls and I finished him off, his A-Wing never even got to fire his missile either.

Finish for the day: 2 -1

The eventual winner was jolley1 who I lost to by 1 hp and due to strength of schedule I finished 2nd. Overall I love my squad and it performed very well even though I was a little worried having only played around 4 games with it beforehand. I'm hoping to attend one more Regional this season and will def. consider taking it again…. even though the Firespray is calling my name. I really would like to win one with a small ship Rebel list, however, due to the gluttony of Falcons stealing all the thunder as of late.

Next possible event, June 15th at the Raven's Nest Game in Marietta, GA.

Thanks for posting this, I was going to post one, but my cpu, and laptop have kicked the bucket.

I had a blast playing, and every game was dramatic and exciting, and I had a great time playing, hope to be able to go to worlds. Will post more when I get my computer up and running.

Hey Jolley,

great to see you on here. Maybe sometime you can do a write up on how to win after giving your opponent a false sense of hope by getting down to one hp repeatedly, lol. Great flying and congrats again for the win. We're going to the Marietta, GA Regional on the 15th so come on down if you have a free day.

Looks like i am going to make it to Georgia this weekend, just NOT to marietta… I am planning on going to worlds in nov. Hope to see you there, if not sooner. Keep me posted on events in Tennessee.
